Position Summary

The Academic Leadership Fellow is responsible for assisting the Vice President / Chief Academic Officer in planning, organizing, managing, and evaluating the Academic Affairs division. This responsibility also includes supervising subordinate department faculty, assisting in providing professional development activities, making hiring recommendations, and making necessary modifications to successfully complete activities for the Academic Affairs division. Also, the Academic Leadership Fellow is responsible for working closely with the Vice President and the appropriate financial officers in the development and allocation of Academic Division budgets and funds. Performs all other duties as directed by the Vice President for Academic Affairs / Chief Academic Officer, the President, or the President's designee.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

At a minimum, the essential functions of the Academic Leadership Fellow shall include:

  • Assist the Vice President for Academic Affairs / Chief Academic Officer as the VPAA / CAO:
  • Oversees the supervision of departmental faculty and coordinate activities of all Snead State Community College sites by conducting regular visits.
  • Reviews and submits proposed departmental class schedules, staffing forms, and teaching loads for all courses over all sites, as well as dual enrollment sites, to ensure student centered schedules for day, night, and online students of all ages.
  • Works with the Executive Assistant for Academic Affairs and the Division Directors to complete FLAC forms and staff courses each semester.
  • Supervises the planning, budgeting, and expenditures of funds allocated for the respective department to develop a high level of instruction by working with Division Directors.
  • Determines the renewal or non-renewal of instructors' contracts.
  • Works with Division Directors and the Associate Dean for Online Learning to maintain oversight of all Canvas courses and the standardization of all syllabi within the department.
  • Coordinates with the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Institutional Research to complete the annual program review process.
  • Coordinates with the Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Institutional Research to complete the annual development, submission, and evaluation of Student Learning Outcomes (SLO) and General Education Outcomes.
  • Works to maintain oversight of SACSCOC instructional compliance including maintaining oversight for the Dual Enrollment program including faculty orientation, evaluation, and Library Services to meet SACSCOC compliance standards.
  • Supervises, observes, and evaluates all members of the Academic Affairs Division including, but not limited to the Associate Dean of Online Learning, the Director of Academic Advising, the Director of Library Services, the Director of IE/IR, the Executive Assistant for Academic Affairs, the Division Directors, and the faculty.
  • Participates with the Division Directors in the orientation of new full-time faculty and adjunct faculty members.
  • Coordinates and provides relevant professional development to the Academic Affairs division.
  • Reviews textbook adoptions and coordinates all instructional material with the College bookstore.
  • Works with the Division Directors to coordinate the recruitment of both full-time and adjunct faculty, following appropriate job search methods.
  • Works with the appropriate Executive Cabinet members and other College departments to enhance instructional partnerships and apprenticeships with businesses and industries.
  • Presides over meetings and maintains copies of minutes as appropriate.
  • Processes requisitions for equipment, materials, and supplies for the Academic Affairs Division.
  • Supervises funds allocated for travel within the division and processes travel requests submitted by faculty and members of the Academic Affairs Division.
  • Ensures that all College reports and requested information are submitted accurately and promptly.
  • Approves and processes all relevant academic-related forms and documentation including, but not limited to: leave requests, grade change requests, course substitution requests, reinstatement requests, course overload requests, field trip requests, independent study requests, virtual office hour requests, and division work hours forms.

Qualifications

Required:

  • The appropriate teaching credentials and experience to teach a course or courses in the respective department at the postsecondary level is required.
  • Two (2) years experience as a division director, or the equivalent, at the postsecondary level is required..
  • Ability to travel to and work at multiple sites is required.
  • Proficiency in communication skills is required.
  • Ability to work well with others and work under pressure is required.

Based on Alabama Community College System Board of Trustees Local Salary Schedule L1 Supplement $400 per month
