Description The Department of Pharmacy Practice of the Irma Lerma College of Pharmacy at Texas A&M University invites applications for a full-time, academic professional track (non-tenure), faculty position with an 11-month academic appointment with duties in the Office of Experiential Education expected to begin May 1, 2026. Applicants will be considered for the faculty titles of Instructional Assistant Professor, Instructional Associate Professor, or Instructional Professor, depending on qualifications. The new faculty position provides the opportunity for individuals with a strong commitment to an academic career emphasizing rural health engagement and innovative teaching and scholarly activities.

Reporting to the Department Head of Pharmacy Practice, the faculty member will be expected to make contributions to teaching and service. The position provides opportunities for an individual with a strong commitment to an academic career emphasizing innovative educational, service, and scholarly activities. Scholarly activity is required; publication and presentation activities are expected. The academic responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, education for healthcare providers, students, and residents. In addition, the position focuses on strengthening rural health engagement through oversight of experiential pharmacy education and collaboration with clinical partners.

60% Teaching Responsibilities

Deliver instruction in topics related to community pharmacy, patient communication, health education, with a focus on rural health needs.

Teaching and facilitating the Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE), end of year benchmark exams, and other skill-based course offerings to ensure a longitudinal, structured approach to assessment of student competencies.

Teaching in the Integrated Pharmacotherapy (IPT) courses, Self Care and/or Communication courses depending on the expertise and experience of the applicant.

40% Responsibilities in OEE (Office of Experiential Experience)

Coordinate and oversee Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience (IPPE) and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience (APPE) rotations in rural and underserved areas.

Develop and maintain relationships with rural clinical partners and community stakeholders to support student placements and service-learning opportunities.

Work closely with the Associate Dean for Clinical and Professional Affairs to implement initiatives that enhance experiential learning and community outreach.

Serve as a mentor and resource for students and preceptors involved in rural experiential education.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or doctoral degree in pharmacy or related field

5-10 years of experience in pharmacy practice, preferably in rural or underserved settings.

5 years of experience in precepting IPPE/APPE PharmD students.

Additional Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Ability to provide didactic teaching with active learning techniques, course management skills, and the use of technology in enhancing course delivery.

Ability to develop a cohesive, cross-departmental team for effective delivery of integrated and team-taught courses.

Strong communication, interpersonal, team-building, and organizational skills.

Ability to present and teach effectively to groups ranging from 20-50 participants.

Willingness to travel to and engage with rural practice sites.

Ability to work effectively and harmoniously in a team-based environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Prior classroom teaching experience in a higher education setting, ideally in pharmacy education.

Experience developing or leading community outreach or rural health programs.
