The MEHS AmeriCorps Academic Specialist supports boarding students through academic tutoring, mentoring, social-emotional guidance, and enrichment that strengthens school connectedness. The role supplements-not replaces-school staff and requires flexibility, communication, and responsiveness to student needs.
Duties include:
• Supporting students identified as academically or socially struggling • Developing targeted interventions • Building relationships with students and families • Participating in school meetings
Responsibilities also include:
• Tutoring • Helping with study skills and organization • Assisting with credit recovery • Supervising academic spaces • Maintaining materials • Offering afterschool support • Wearing an AmeriCorps uniform
Members receive 2-4 weeks of onboarding, ongoing supervision, and may serve with Parks & Recreation in summer programming.
