Academic Support Program Assistant

The position of an Academic Support Program Assistant will be available at East Central ISD for the 2026-2027 School Year. All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website. PRIMARY PURPOSE: Provide supplemental academic, behavioral, supervisory support for identified students and assist campus administration in maintaining a highly structured and orderly professional environment. This position will work under the general supervision of East Central High School's Academic Support Facilitator and as needed the immediate direction of certified teachers or Student Support Coach on a daily basis.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in the supervisorial and academic oversight of at-risk students, specifically those assigned to East Central's Academic Support Program.
  • Assist, redirect, and support at-risk students when necessary for accurate and timely completion of assignments and mastery of skills for graduation purposes.
  • Acquire and maintain a depth of understanding to efficiently utilize technology devices and various online educational programs and curriculum software.
  • Communicate and coordinate daily with administration and teachers on assignments, materials, or special instructional needs.
  • Monitor, inform, teach, and support students daily in the learning of campus norms and behavioral expectations, including social skills.
  • Continuously assist with daily at-risk program and student data collections, lab/classroom maintenance, and monitoring of at-risk students that may include but not limited to attendance, progress monitoring, behavior checks, and other likes duties attached to the at-risk program and students.
  • Be readily available, self-motivated, and flexible to support and assist as need the campus administration, teachers, and staff, including substitutes in meeting the academic, behavioral, and programmatic needs of the campus.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Work well and positively interact with at-risk students who may be struggling with behavior in the classroom.
  • Perform duties with a minimum of supervision.
  • Professionally and effectively perform daily duties as outlined and defined on-campus schedule and designed to maintain and support a highly structured, orderly environment for the campus.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and that align to improving the services for East Central High School designated at-risk programs and students.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

High school diploma or GED

Must have one of the following:

  • 48 college hours with some emphasis on child growth or development or related area
  • Treasuring our Para-professionals certification (must be obtained prior to employment; applicant is responsible for all associated costs)

Educational Aide Certificate

Experience working with children: at-risk students preferred

Ability to communicate effectively (orally & writing)

EQUIPMENT USED: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals, standard instructional equipment

WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress; frequent interruptions. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, and lifting. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment. May be required to lift and position students with physical disabilities; control behavior through physical restraint, and assist non-ambulatory students. Exposure to biological hazards. Work predominantly inside and exposure to noise; may work outside with exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather, too.

PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: 187 days basis

SALARY: Paraprofessional Pay Grade 205, SCE Funded
