JOB TITLE: Academic Support Specialist-Migrant Focus
REPORTS TO: Principal or designee
UNIT CLASSIFICATION: Classified Non-Rep
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Identify at-risk students by creating a system to track attendance, grades, and academic progress utilizing District data systems, teacher referrals, and state test scores. Support identified at-risk students with appropriate interventions including connecting to mentors and tutoring services. Collaborate with counselors, administrators, and behavior intervention specialist to connect students with outside services to promote student success. Provide support for identified highly capable students based on individual needs and interests, with a focus on higher education.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS*:
- Work with attendance personnel to monitor daily attendance of identified at-risk students.
- Collect teacher referrals for failing students. Screen referrals and recommend placement in interventions.
- Assist in the management of any school and after school academic intervention systems.
- Collect, organize analyze data to identify and track students with at-risk factors.
- Collaborate with intervention systems and support.
- Motivate and promote student success by working with students and teachers ensure that identified at-risk students pass all classes.
- Assist in the continued development of a positive school culture and climate.
- Confer with parents, teachers, counselors, support service personnel, and students on matters of academic and attendance intervention.
- Confer and make appropriate referrals to psychologist, social workers, and support personnel.
- Collaborate with the math and literacy coach to support students identified as Highly Capable, with a focus on preparation for higher education.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student records and information.
- Other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
B.A. in Education preferred
Experience in working with high school or middle school students
Bi-lingual/Bi-literate (English and Spanish) preferred
Able to communicate effectively in verbal and written form
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrate interpersonal skills to work with students of diverse academic and behavior
needs.
- Demonstrate experience, interest and willingness to work with students, parents, school,
personnel and outside agencies.
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.

- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to produce accurate documents using word spreadsheet, database, computer software.
