Position Summary

  • The ATS provides teaching and learning support to instructors (faculty, adjuncts, TAs, and GAs) - often, but not exclusively, involving technology. Areas of support include, but are not limited to, helping to plan, develop, implement, assess, and enhance teaching and learning strategies and materials to ensure strong pedagogy; The ATS provides services to the University (~30%) and School of Nursing (70%); Provide instructional and program design expertise to support the development of innovative online and hybrid courses within the School of Nursing.
  • Assist School of Nursing faculty in the design of online course and course content, development of innovative learning resources including animation/simulation technologies, and redesigning courses and course content for electronic delivery; Training faculty in learning management systems, multiple media and e-platforms; collaborate with appropriate campus division and offices; innovative use of simulation, virtual reality, gaming, and animation.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master's degree.
  • At least two (2) years of work experience in instructional design or related area.
  • Experience with a Learning Management System.
  • Experience with on-line course design and delivery.

Additional Required Certifications, Licensures, and Certificates Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree preferred in education, instructional design, instructional technology, or related field.
  • Doctoral degree in related field.
  • Teaching experience in a higher education.
  • Strong interest or experience in AI or VR.

Essential Tasks

  • Collaborations and Partnerships:

  • Collaborate with campus and program leadership in the creation, advertising, and delivery of tutorials, training, projects, workshops, special events, and support documentation for implementation across the university.

  • Periodically review and update University resource websites and training courses.

  • Support instructors (regardless of academic home) when a significant need is presented that current ATS assignments cannot support fully.

  • Committee Service:

  • Represent the Unit at bi-weekly meetings of the ATSs and representatives from Information Technology Services: Learning Technology (ITS:LT), University Libraries (UL), and the University Teaching and Learning Commons (UTLC).

  • Represent the Unit at Other University Level committees as assigned.

  • Professional Development:

  • Complete all aspects of the professional development for online instructors per PROCEDURES FOR PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND SUPPORT FOR ONLINE INSTRUCTORS and additional training as needed.

Essential Tasks

  • Instructional Technology Training and Support for Faculty /Instructors:

  • Provide support for the effective use of instructional technology and other related software and tools, including assistance with the development of learning goals, syllabi review, course redesign, instructional strategies, and content for web enhanced, blended, and fully online learning environments. This support may be implemented via:

  • Workshops

  • Just-in-Time questions from faculty: Face to face, email, virtual, and phone interactions with instructors (faculty, adjuncts, and TA/GAs); Consultations and Drop-in events

  • On-demand Resources (web-based): Written materials; Online guides

  • Train instructors and unit representatives to review online courses to ensure quality using QM and accessibility standards.

  • Serve as first contact support for instructors' virtual and classroom-based applications such as the LMS, video platforms, online testing monitoring software, and ITS-approved academic software, escalating as needed.

  • Maintain appropriate records and data to (a) produce regular performance and external reports and (b) evaluate the effectiveness of services and support provided.

  • Communication with the Unit:

  • Post regular communication to the unit: Including advertisement of unit-level workshops, services, and opportunities; Including Information on current instructional technology issues at UNCG.

  • As appropriate, present updates at unit-level administration meetings, addressing queries and needs; As appropriate, serve on unit-level committees.

  • Consult with instructors regarding adoption of new instructional technology software.

  • Professional Development:

  • Remain current with new instructional technology software, hardware, and pedagogical practices appropriate to the Unit.

  • Remain current with curricular and pedagogical practices in Unit disciplines.

Unit Level - Unit Specific Responsibilities

Essential Tasks

  • Provide leadership and enhance communication with faculty related to academic instructional technologies.
  • Proactively and regularly connect with faculty new to UNCG and/or new to teaching to assess needs and to inform of services and best practices related to instructional technologies.
  • Survey faculty yearly to determine their needs related to ATS services and professional development in this area.
  • Inform and track faculty compliance with required University online teaching modules. Report status to department chairs monthly.
  • Facilitate Online Quality Matters courses (Intro to QM/Design Your Online Course/Improve Your Online Course)
  • Participate in program meetings to learn, address and offer support for teaching/learning technology needs.
  • Provide expertise to support the use of specialized SON software for teaching and learning (ex. Examsoft).
  • Maintain the SON Instructional and Technology Services web page & blog.
  • Update and maintain Canvas training courses for SON students.
  • Assist faculty and graduate students with using custom designed Poster & PPT templates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned as they relate to academic instructional technology.
