Academic Tutor/Mentor

SUMMARY:

RSL Academy is seeking a part-time tutor/mentor to assist with the education needs of student-athletes. The tutor/mentor will provide in-person and/or online tutoring on various academic subjects in addition to mentoring student-athletes. The tutor/mentor will also address the needs of diverse learners; serve as a positive mentor and interact with students and school faculty and staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Interact with students on a one-on-one basis and in small groups, assisting with their schoolwork and tutoring in various academic subjects.
• Tracks student progress by following through with each student, recording successes and/or problem areas.
• Maintaining consistent and effective communication with RSL Academy and school staff.
• Motivates students to succeed through positive reinforcement and being a good role model.
• Maintain a positive learning environment.
• Work closely with RSL Academy Education staff to determine best practices when working with student-athletes.
• Create academic plans for assigned mentees who may need additional assistance in balancing academic and soccer responsibilities.
• Check student-athletes' academic progress and mentor them if needed.
• Mentor students by talking to them about good decision-making processes and providing study-skills help. 
• Assist in RSL Academy events and workshops, and study hall sessions
• Communicate concerns regarding student safety or well-being with RSL Academy personnel
• Tutor during study hall hours or as needed 
• Serve as a positive role model
• Listen actively and encourage while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
• Develop positive, supportive relationships with assigned mentees.
• Meet consistently with mentees during scheduled mentoring sessions.
• Encourage academic success by assisting with organization, study habits, and goal setting.

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

• Ability to collaborate with students to enhance their knowledge in high school level courses.
• Knowledge of and competence in tutoring various core subject areas.
• Ability to use initiative and demonstrate dependability.
• Ability to communicate effectively.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The job requires regularly lifting/pushing up to 5 pounds and occasionally lifting/pushing more than 10 pounds or exerting heavy force, in a wide disparity or environmental conditions. The job involves standing, stooping, bending, lifting, pushing, typing, etc.
