Job Description

Job Title: Academically/Intellectually Gifted (AIG) Education Teacher (K-8)

Job Summary:

The AIG Education Teacher plans, delivers, and supports specialized instruction and enrichment opportunities for academically and intellectually gifted students in grades K-8. The teacher collaborates with administrators, classroom teachers, and families to ensure appropriate identification, placement, and educational services that promote student achievement and growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify and assess students for AIG services using school and state guidelines.
  • Develop and implement differentiated instructional strategies that challenge gifted learners.
  • Design enrichment and acceleration opportunities aligned with curriculum standards.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt instruction for advanced learners.
  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate records of AIG services.
  • Develop Individual Differentiated Education Plans (or equivalent documentation) as required by school and state policies.
  • Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and programming.
  • Analyze assessment data to inform instructional decisions.
  • Provide professional development and coaching to school staff on gifted education strategies.
  • Foster critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, and independent learning skills.
  • Participate in school improvement initiatives, faculty meetings, and professional learning communities.
  • Ensure compliance with state and school AIG policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor''s degree in Education or a related field
  • Valid NC teaching license
  • AIG/Gifted Education licensure, endorsement, or willingness to obtain certification as required.
  • Successful teaching experience, preferably in elementary or middle school.
  • Knowledge of gifted education best practices, curriculum differentiation, and assessment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong understanding of gifted learner characteristics and social-emotional needs.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction across multiple grade levels.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Strong organizational and data analysis abilities.
  • Proficiency with educational technology and assessment tools.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Commitment to equity and identifying gifted students from diverse backgrounds.
