Why does the job exist?

This position will facilitate training to incoming officers and current officers; this includes handling all logistical issues involved in coordinating training. This position will also specialize in a high-risk platform (firearms) and will be the certified Master Instructor who will oversee other firearms instructors in the field.

Ideal Candidate

  • Candidate should have knowledge of firearms and the safe operation of firearms

Minimum Qualification

Associates Degree in any field as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of this classification and three (3) years of experience in law enforcement, adult corrections, classroom instruction, and/or teaching. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling five (5) years may substitute for the required education and experience.

Employment Requirements

This position is designated as safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules, and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Drivers License. Employment is subject to pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with inmates. Willingness to work in a correctional facility, may be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
