Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Access Control Technician to support a large, multi-floor access control installation project. The primary responsibility will be preparing and routing composite access control cabling down door frames so our installation technicians can complete the device installation.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with low-voltage or access control wiring and be comfortable fishing wires through door frames. Experience fully trimming out doors with readers, REX devices, strikes, and door contacts is a plus, but not required. Training can be provided for the proper wire routing and termination locations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work on a large number of access control doors throughout a multi-floor building.
  • Access composite cable located above each door and prepare it for installation.
  • Strip the outer casing of the composite cable and separate the four individual conductors.
  • Fish and route each wire down the door frame to its designated location:
    • Locking hardware
    • Card reader
    • Door contact
    • Request-to-Exit (REX) motion sensor
  • Maintain clean, organized, and properly routed cabling.
  • Follow established routing procedures and project specifications.
  • Coordinate with access control technicians completing the device installation.
  • Work safely and efficiently while moving between multiple floors and a large number of doors.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous access control, low-voltage, security, or structured cabling experience preferred.
  • Experience fishing or routing wire through door frames, walls, conduit, or other tight pathways.
  • Ability to work with small-gauge low-voltage conductors and carefully separate composite cabling.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to perform repetitive work consistently.
  • Experience installing access control devices such as card readers, REX devices, electric strikes, and door contacts is a plus.
  • Must be comfortable learning the project's specific wire-routing process.
  • Reliable, safety-conscious, and able to work efficiently on a large multi-floor project.
