We are seeking an experienced Access Control Technician with extensive hands-on experience in the installation, termination, and troubleshooting of access control systems and components. This role supports commercial projects in the San Francisco Bay Area and requires a strong technical foundation in low-voltage security systems.
Key Responsibilities
Install access control hardware and components, including card readers, keypads, biometric devices, mag locks, electric strikes, request-to-exit (REX) devices, door contacts, power supplies, and control panels.
Perform accurate terminations of low-voltage wiring (Cat5e/Cat6, composite cables, etc.) and ensure clean, reliable connections.
Troubleshoot and diagnose issues with access control systems, hardware, power, wiring, and related components.
Test, commission, and verify system functionality after installation or repair.
Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and project specifications.
Coordinate with project teams, clients, and other trades as needed.
Maintain accurate documentation of work performed and materials used.
Adhere to safety standards, manufacturer guidelines, and applicable codes.
Required Qualifications
Extensive experience with access control component installation, terminations, and troubleshooting.
Proven hands-on experience installing and servicing commercial access control systems.
Strong understanding of low-voltage electrical principles, wiring practices, and door hardware integration.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced field environment.
Valid driver's license and clean driving record.
Ability to pass a background check.
Physical ability to lift equipment (typically up to 50 lbs), climb ladders, and work in varied environments.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with common platforms (e.g., S2, Lenel, Genetec, Software House, AMAG, OpenPath, Avigilon, Client, or similar).
Familiarity with IP networking basics related to access control systems.
Related experience with CCTV/video, intrusion systems, or structured cabling.
Technical school training, electronics background, or relevant certifications.
Prior work in commercial, enterprise, or multi-site environments.
