We are currently seeking student assistants to serve as Student Assistants-in-Charge (SAIC). This position requires a minimum commitment of 10 hours per week for 2 academic semesters. To apply, please submit a resume, cover letter is optional.
This poistion is available to current tier 2 student assistants on the Access and Resource Services Team
Student Assistants play a leadership role in library operations by supervising student staff, supporting complex service needs, and helping ensure safe and effective building operations, especially during evenings, weekends, and other shifts with limited full-time staff coverage.
Responsibilities:
Student Assistants provide advanced operational and supervisory support in public services, collections, and materials processing. Responsibilities include:
Serving as the Student Assistant-in-Charge (SAIC) during assigned shifts
Supervising, mentoring, and supporting Tier 1 and Tier 2 Student Assistants
Coordinating staffing and adjusting workflows to maintain service coverage
Assisting patrons with complex account issues, service concerns, and policy questions
Applying library policies consistently and appropriately
Responding to facility or operational issues and escalating concerns when needed
Assisting with opening and closing procedures, including safety checks and securing spaces
Supporting training and onboarding of new student employees
Ensuring accuracy and consistency in circulation, shelving, and materials processing
Communicating shift reports, incidents, and operational updates to supervisors
Completing additional organizational, operational, and light cleaning tasks as assigned
Student Assistants receive advanced training in library operations, including:
Leadership and peer supervision
Decision-making in a public service environment
Emergency awareness and response procedures
Library policy interpretation and enforcement
Conflict resolution and professional communication
Operational coordination and building oversight
Rate of pay: Student employment Class III payrate: 14.52 - 15.40
