Access Services Librarian
Overview
The Access Services Librarian provides library service to law faculty, students, staff, alumni, and other members ofthe university community as well as public patrons. The Access Services Librarian manages day-to-day activitiesat the circulation desk including: ensuring service coverage at the circulation desk during weekday, evening shifts;charging out materials; responding to patron inquiries including directional reference questions; managinginterlibrary loan operations including providing training and continued assistance to the Law School's journaleditors and staff; serving as faculty liaison for course reserves; supervising 20-25 Access Services part-timestudent employees. The Access Services Librarian also works directly with the Assistant Director of AccessServices to help evaluate procedures and policies to ensure the Law Library continues to meet the needs of all ofits users.

Responsibilities
1.Staffs the Circulation Desk, including responding to patron inquiries, charging outmaterials to patrons, and answering directional reference questions during designatedevening hours; this position holds an alternate schedule of 12-8PMMonday-Thursday, 10-6PM Friday.
Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates 20-25 part-time student employees in theAccess Services Department. Coordinates completion of I-9 paperwork and otherdocumentation with the CUA Human Resources Office to ensure compliance withuniversity hiring and payroll policies and procedures.
Serves as the Librarian-in-Charge for the Access Services Department in the absenceof the Assistant Director of Access Services. Employs operational problem-solvingfor student, faculty, alumni, and public patron issues, exercising professionaljudgment to refer more advanced issues to the Assistant Director of Access Services.
Manages the Law Library's interlibrary loan and resource sharing operations,including both borrowing and lending, following standards set by the InterlibraryLoan Code for the United States. Uses bibliographic searching skills to identify andretrieve specialized legal and nonlegal materials in electronic or print format perrequests submitted by law faculty and students. Uses all available resources, including the Law Library's and CUA University Libraries' collections andelectronic resource access, and OCLC's WorldShare Interlibrary Loan platform tofulfill these requests. Coordinates delivery of materials to requesters and overseesthe proper return of all borrowed materials to the owning institution in a timelymanner.
Serves as faculty liaison for Course Reserves. Works directly with law faculty andthe Assistant Director of Collection Services to ensure correct semester textbooksare purchased and received. Supports the Access Services Manager in updatingcourses and reading lists in the Library's integrated library system, Ex Libris' Almaeach semester.
Provides instructional presentations, training, and outreach to editors and staff atjournal orientation, facilitates borrowing, coordinates research inquiries andmaintains student access to specialized services.
Participates in departmental meetings led by the Assistant Director of AccessServices in order to evaluate library policy, troubleshoot problems, and suggestimprovements, including the implementation of new tools and services.
Serves as a resource for library staff regarding user accessibility. Collaborates withthe Assistant Director of Access Services and the Research Services Department toevaluate student needs and concerns to ensure the Library's physical spaces areaccessible to all users, and that the Library's web-based services comply with currentweb accessibility standards.
I cooperation with Research Services, develops and maintains select library userguides. Participates in the development or improvement of web-based services,including, but not limited to, LibGuides and LibCal. Maintains select library blogs.Serves on library committees (e.g. the marketing/outreach committee).
Maintains written policies, procedures, and training materials for the desk attendanthandbook as well as contributing to Staff LibGuides for the Access ServicesDepartment.
In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Collection Services, assists withtraining of the Graduate Library Preprofessional (GLP) and other paraprofessionalstaff.
Participates in professional organizations such as the American Association of LawLibraries, and the Law Librarians Society of the District of Columbia as arepresentative of the library and actively participates in the advancement andpromotion of the librarian profession.
Qualifications
Master''s Degree- Two years of experience as a professional librarian, preferably in an academic library. Experience in circulation orinterlibrary loan preferred. Experience supervising students and/or paraprofessionals preferred. Experience withEx Libris' Alma and Primo VE preferred.
Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certification:Proficiency with office software (MS Office/Google Drive)Experience with an integrated library system or library services platformExperience with an interlibrary loan service platform (e.g. OCLC's WorldShare ILL)
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Needed:Ability to communicate both orally and in writing using standard business English.Strong service orientation and collegial work style.Familiarity with library circulation procedures in an academic library.Ability to train, supervise and evaluate student employees.Ability to work and supervise effectively under pressure.Familiarity in providing library outreach through working with a diverse clientele, including faculty,law students, and unskilled library users.
