Job Title: Accessioner I

Job Description

The Accessioner I plays a key role in the laboratory by accurately processing and cataloging patient specimens, primarily blood, for clinical analysis. This position supports diagnostic and treatment decisions by ensuring that all samples are received, documented, and prepared for testing in a precise and timely manner. The role involves frequent collaboration with other laboratory professionals and requires strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Receive and triage all incoming specimens for clinical testing, ensuring proper identification and handling.
  • Catalog patient specimens such as blood, urine, or tissue in the laboratory database with complete and accurate information.
  • Manage clinical information within the LCLS database, maintaining data integrity and confidentiality.
  • Perform specimen tracking activities, including labeling, logging, and monitoring sample movement throughout the laboratory.
  • Prepare specimens for packing and shipping, following established protocols and regulatory guidelines.
  • Collaborate with various laboratory departments to support testing accuracy and timely completion of analyses.
  • Support laboratory workflows in a high-paced environment by multitasking and prioritizing specimen processing.
  • Adhere to laboratory procedures and quality standards to ensure reliable test results.
  • Work independently to complete assigned tasks while contributing effectively to team-based operations.

Essential Skills

  • 0-2 years of work experience in a laboratory or similar data-driven environment.
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-paced setting with significant data entry and multitasking requirements.
  • Strong attention to accuracy, with a focus on meeting deadlines and maintaining data quality.
  • Proven ability to work well both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory processes and specimen handling.
  • Comfort working primarily with blood specimens and other clinical sample types.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • AS or BS degree in biological sciences or a related discipline preferred.
  • Experience using laboratory information systems or databases such as LCLS is beneficial.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks in a busy clinical environment.
  • Effective communication skills to coordinate with multiple laboratory departments.

Work Environment

This role is based in a clinical laboratory environment where most work involves handling and processing blood specimens, along with other patient samples. The schedule typically runs from 3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., with an additional Saturday shift approximately once per month from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The work setting is fast-paced and detail-oriented, requiring consistent focus on specimen integrity, accurate data entry, and adherence to laboratory protocols. Team members collaborate closely while also performing tasks independently, contributing to a supportive and professional culture focused on quality patient care.

This is a Contract position based out of Earth City, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr.
