Job Description

As a member of the specimen accessioning team, you will be involved in the pre-analytical and post-analytical processes of testing. This role does not include direct involvement in testing but focuses on receiving, logging, and preparing samples for the lab, as well as managing sample storage and disposal. This position is an excellent opportunity for those looking to start or advance a career in a laboratory setting.

Responsibilities

• Meet couriers at the door to receive samples from across the USA and internationally, initiating the tracking process.
• Verify the arrival of all samples, inspect for damage, and manage the disposal of packaging.
• Operate multiple computer software systems, applying the correct software to different sample types.
• Ensure sample names match requisitions accurately.
• Handle various samples, including urine, blood, serum, plasma, and body fluids.
• Create and apply labels to samples after system entry.
• Occasionally aliquot samples, centrifuge, or freeze them to stabilize as needed.
• Help manage the workflow of sample maintenance in walk-in refrigerators and freezers after designated time periods.

Essential Skills

• High School Diploma, with a preference for candidates with some science coursework.
• Desire to advance within the lab environment.
• Intermediate computer, typing, and 10-key skills.
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks efficiently.
• High accuracy and attention to detail in work.
• Capability to work in a fast-paced production environment to meet turnaround times.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in multitasking and willingness to learn.
• Backgrounds in science, lab work, banking, serving, or customer service are valued.
• Opportunity to access tuition reimbursement for qualifying degrees through a partnership with Arizona State University.

Work Environment

You will be working in a fast-paced, production-type environment that processes between 5,000-11,000 samples daily. The position operates on a 1st shift schedule from 8 AM to 4:30 PM, Tuesday to Saturday. The role offers on-the-job training, enabling you to provide the medical community with accurate results. The potential for transitioning from a contract to a full-time position exists based on performance and business needs. Employees are eligible for up to 144 hours of vacation pay plus holidays upon becoming full-time.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $17.75/hr.
