At Outcast, we don’t just follow the future—we help shape it. We are a strategic communications agency trusted by high-growth startups and established technology brands to define categories, influence markets, and build reputations that last.

With expertise across earned, owned, and paid media, our teams in the US and UK deliver integrated strategies that cut through complexity and drive meaningful business impact. As part of Marker Collective and the Next15 Group, we combine entrepreneurial agility with global reach.

We’re looking for an Account Director to join our San Francisco team—a strategic operator and trusted advisor who can lead accounts with authority, inspire teams to do their best work, and deliver programs that move the needle.

About You

You are a confident communications leader who turns business priorities into clear, compelling narratives. Senior clients rely on you for perspective and counsel. You ask smart questions, challenge assumptions, and bring solutions grounded in experience.

You lead with clarity and accountability, balancing high-level strategy with strong execution. You build and develop high-performing teams, create structure, and foster an environment where people grow.

You are a strategic thinker with a big-picture view, business savvy, and a strong understanding of what drives client impact. You are an empathetic, reliable leader who builds strong client partnerships and navigates a fast-changing communications landscape with agility.

What You Do

  • Lead strategy and day-to-day oversight across multiple client accounts, ensuring alignment with business goals

  • Serve as a senior advisor to executive stakeholders, delivering proactive counsel

  • Develop and oversee integrated communications programs across media relations, executive visibility, thought leadership, and campaigns

  • Drive major announcements, product launches, funding news, and narrative development

  • Identify timely storytelling opportunities tied to industry trends and cultural moments

  • Maintain and strengthen relationships with top-tier media, analysts, and influencers

  • Oversee quality of all deliverables, ensuring work is strategic, polished, and on brief

  • Manage scopes of work, budgets, forecasting, staffing, and account profitability

  • Lead client strategy meetings and act as a central point of contact for account health

  • Guide teams in planning and execution with a big-picture perspective

  • Support crisis communications with clear strategy and recommendations

  • Develop high-level messaging and positioning; lead or support media training

  • Identify organic growth opportunities and contribute to new business efforts

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver integrated programs

  • Mentor and develop team members through coaching and feedback

  • Support hiring, onboarding, and team development

  • Represent the agency at client meetings, industry events, and key moments

Who You Are

  • 8–10+ years of experience in public relations, corporate communications, or integrated marketing

  • 3–5+ years of experience managing and developing high-performing teams

  • Prior agency experience strongly preferred

  • Prior knowledge of or work experience within the technology sector strongly preferred, as this is our primary client base

  • Proven success advising senior leaders and managing complex, multi-workstream programs

  • Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, resourcing, and client profitability

  • Exceptional writer and editor with experience shaping executive messaging and positioning

  • Strong media acumen with an understanding of today’s evolving earned landscape

  • Confident communicator who can lead meetings, workshops, and strategic discussions

  • Comfortable operating in fast-paced, high-growth environments with multiple stakeholders

  • Champion the use of AI tools and emerging tech to enhance writing, research, and content production efficiency

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or related field preferred
