Department: Retrofit Division
Reports To: Retrofit Division Manager
This position leads critical preconstruction and estimating operations functions within a retrofit construction division. The role balances employee interests with customer and company objectives, supports sales efforts, and ensures all responsibilities are carried out with a strong focus on total customer satisfaction.
• Work closely with business development, operations, finance, safety, and human resources teams.
• Organize and manage centralized estimating databases and historical cost information.
• Collect and analyze data to estimate time, cost, materials, equipment, and labor required for steel and retrofit construction solutions nationwide.
• Maintain directories of suppliers, contractors, and subcontractors.
• Support business development efforts through technical expertise, constructability input, and estimating support.
• Evaluate client needs and develop solutions that meet budgetary, safety, code compliance, and constructability requirements.
• Perform conceptual estimating and budgeting for value engineering opportunities.
• Review specifications, plans, bid manuals, and technical documentation to prepare cost estimates.
• Author project-specific proposals with detailed scopes, inclusions, and exclusions.
• Solicit and analyze subcontractor proposals to ensure compliance with bid requirements.
• Evaluate proposals for repair and renovation projects to determine the best overall project fit.
• Work occasional evenings, weekends, and overtime as needed.
• Participate in business development opportunities by providing technical expertise, cost input, constructability guidance, and best practices.
• Support solicitation efforts for both existing and prospective clients.
• Evaluate bid opportunities based on company capabilities, risk tolerance, workload, and strategic objectives.
• Review estimates, budgets, proposals, and scopes of work for completeness and accuracy.
• Review contracts and provide recommendations regarding edits or risk concerns.
• Assist with development of preliminary construction schedules.
• Support project teams in developing detailed schedules and site-specific security plans.
• Review project requirements related to staffing, scheduling, techniques, and general conditions.
• Lead project turnover meetings and communicate project risks or concerns to operations teams.
• Review Job Cost Budgets with project teams.
• Determine project personnel and equipment requirements.
• Coordinate procurement of required materials.
• Monitor project progress and financial performance to identify current and potential issues.
• Assist with review of change orders, subcontract modifications, and purchase orders when needed.
• Support mediation and resolution of back charges, disputes, and claims.
• Assist with development and implementation of long range operational plans and action plans.
• Participate in hiring, employee discipline, and termination processes.
• Ensure company policies and procedures are followed on project sites.
• Identify operational deficiencies and coordinate corrective actions as needed.
• Recommend strategies to reduce costs, improve profitability, and enhance operational performance.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Travel may be required.
• Bachelor’s degree in construction or related field preferred, or equivalent related experience.
• Minimum 7–10 years of experience within the construction industry.
• Knowledge of accepted construction management principles.
• Experience in preconstruction, estimating, and construction project management.
• Strong organizational and prioritization abilities.

• Repetitive use of hands, wrists, and fingers.
• Frequent standing, walking, climbing, balancing, reaching, bending, and crouching.
• Climbing ladders and navigating active project sites may be required.
• Occasional lifting and moving of up to 10 pounds.
• Visual, verbal, and audio functions are essential to the role.
• Frequent exposure to outdoor construction environments, including heat, cold, humidity, uneven terrain, and varying weather conditions.
• Noise levels on jobsites may be high.
