The Rancho Cucamonga Finance Department is seeking an analytical and innovative Account Technician who provides outstanding customer service to employees, maintains a high level of confidentiality, adapts to new systems and processes, takes initiative, and is highly motivated, knowledgeable, diligent, and team-oriented professional to work as an Account Technician - Payroll.

The ideal candidate will adhere to the overall mission and core values of the Finance Department, will possess strong customer service and organizational skills, pay attention to detail, demonstrate the ability to perform a variety of accounting functions and to operate financial and program software.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and/or experience in the following:

  • Provide outstanding customer service while maintaining a high level of confidentiality related to personal employee information and payroll-related matters.
  • Assist in the audit process; review and proofread payroll reports; prepare batches for cash receipts and payroll adjusting entries; and maintain journal entry log.
  • Process a complete payroll as well as shadow period checks and audit the daily deposit.
  • Assist in computer system testing of Workday and Telestaff.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING HERE AT TEAM RC

Performs paraprofessional accounting work in the audit, maintenance or preparation of accounting records, reports, tax reports, and schedules.

Reviews time records submitted by all departments to ensure conformance with appropriate bargaining unit contracts and administrative policies and regulations; records and keys hours worked, verifies pay increases and computer file data for the current payroll period; reviews edit documents, corrects errors and balances payroll for each pay period.

Maintains payroll records including processing new hires; calculates salary changes and deferred compensation; provides information to employees regarding tax deductions, retirement, and deferred compensation.

Performs other accounting tasks assigned, such as balancing and posting, the preparation of related journal entries, preparation of account analysis and reconciliation on a computerized system.

Participates in the preparation of the annual City budget. Assists in the audit of City financial records.

ARE YOU QUALIFIED

Completion of college level coursework in basic accounting or finance; and three years of experience in accounting or a related field that involved maintaining financial and statistical records or any combination of training and experience that provides the desired knowledge and abilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of principles and knowledge of practices of accounting and financial record keeping, as well as general office procedures; pertinent laws and regulations. Skill in the operation of a variety of office equipment, including a 10-keyadding machine by touch; operation of remote terminals and microcomputer equipment to maintain or prepare financial documents and records. Ability to understand, interpret, and apply the fundamental principles of accounting, related policies and procedures; reconcile differences within the record keeping system requiring an understanding of the relationship among accounting records and documents; prepare manual and computerized financial reports, and maintain ledgers and journals; analyze fiscal data and maintain cooperative working relationships.
