The Louisiana Institute for Women is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Accountant to join our team. Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR

Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR

A bachelor's degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR

A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR

An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR

Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:

Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

• Manage, monitor, and safeguard all institutional funds, including imprest accounts, inmate organizations, inmate canteen operations, and general fund accounts, ensuring compliance with state fiscal policies and internal control standards.
• Oversee all aspects of inmate banking services, including account maintenance, transaction accuracy, reconciliation, and compliance with audit and regulatory requirements.
• Supervise and provide leadership to the Accounting Specialist, including task assignment, performance monitoring, training, and ensuring adherence to established accounting procedures and timelines.
• Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reconciliations; investigate variances and ensure accurate reporting of all institutional financial activities.
• Prepare detailed financial reports, analysis, and documentation needed for audits, budget planning, and administrative decision-making.
• Maintain rigorous internal controls, safeguard sensitive financial data, and ensure proper documentation and retention of financial records.
• Collaborate with administrative staff, program managers, and institutional leadership to support sound fiscal management and provide guidance on accounting practices and policy interpretation.
• Assist in developing and implementing improvements to accounting processes, systems, and procedures to enhance efficiency and compliance.

Position-Specific Details:

Appointment Type: PROBATION, or PROMOTION OF A PERMANENT, CLASSIFIED LOUISIANA STATE EMPLOYEE

• Current permanent status classified LA State employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if accepted.
• An employee selected for a promotion may be required to serve a trial detail prior to being permanently promoted.
• This posting may also be used to fill a vacancy as a temporary job appointment. If filled as a temporary job appointment, should a permanent position become available, the employee may be converted to a probational appointment.

Compensation: This position has a Special Entrance Rate (SER) at each level. However, the salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

• Accountant 1 has an SER of $21.63 per hour
• Accountant 2 has an SER of $23.14 per hour
• Accountant 3 has an SER of $26.50 per hour

Career Progression Group: ACCOUNTANT 1, 2, OR 3

• Filled at the highest level of experience of the selected applicant.
• Salary depends on level of experience.
