POSITION OVERVIEW
JOB SUMMARY:
The Accountant within the Controller''s Office provides reporting assistance for university fixed assets, lease management, taxation, and financial statements. Works with the Associate Controller of Reporting to enhance the collection of data for unrelated business income tax and Florida sales tax in order to file pertinent returns. Maintains fixed asset accounting records in accordance with university and state regulations, as well as GASB guidelines. Participates in university property surplus process. Assists in the preparation of the annual financial statements for construction/property and other funds.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor''s degree in an appropriate area of specialization; or a high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of accounting principles (both GASB and FASB), accounting best practices, accounting information flows, internal controls, and project management. Ability to comprehend information flow in complex systems and recognize opportunities for improvement/ efficiencies/ synergies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor''s degree in an accounting related field.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES:
- 25% - Prepares the monthly sales tax filings required of the university. Assists in data collection for annual income tax filings. Prepares work papers, journal entries, and reports to ensure integrity of the data entered. Expands knowledge of and familiarity with available resources on sales tax issues. In consultation with the Associate Controller, keeps abreast of changes in sales tax related statutes and regulations that may have an impact on the university. Coordinates the activity of university departments in gathering data necessary for filings. - (Essential)
- 30% - Responsible for adding, tracking and monitoring asset additions to the University ERP system. Ensures timely reporting related to all property records of the university. Provides assurance that the construction fund is in balance and reconciled to the university ERP system. Reviews, modifies, and reconciles depreciation and amortization entries related to the property records of the university. Works with the property manager to ensure that property surplus auctions accounting and reporting is filed timely and accurately. Works with university departments on property related matters. Participates in university property meetings and discussions. Reviews and approves surplus property requests, ensuring disposition of property follows university regulations and state statutes. Processes asset write-offs and journal entries, as needed. Assist the Property Manager with annual physical inventory of property costing $5,000 or more. - (Essential)
- 20% - Assists in the oversight of auxiliary funds at the university. Monitors requests for new auxiliary funds to ensure anticipated revenue streams and expenditures are appropriate to auxiliary stated mission. Aids financial managers with propriety of expenditures in accordance with university and state expenditure guidelines. Works with the Associate Controller to help identify potential sales tax implications of any new auxiliary activities. - (Essential)
- 15% - Assists the Associate Controller in the coordination of the annual financial statement process. Proposes updates to crosswalks, assists in the loading of Banner data into Automated Financial Statement System, and reconcile output back to Banner. Locates edits and proposes corrections for any discrepancies. Assist in the preparation of accrual basis financial statements for construction and property fund. Assists in the data required footnote disclosures information related to property and construction funds. - (Essential)
- 5% - Assists in the management of leases within the LeaseQuery software. Enters new leases upon execution and makes edits as needed to existing leases for renewals, termination, or miscellaneous changes in accordance with GASB guidelines. - (Essential)
- 5% - Prepares ad-hoc reports related to property and financial matters as requested by the Associate Controller. Performs analysis related to areas of responsibility and special projects as requested by Associate Controller. Other duties as assigned. - (Essential)
