The Role
The Accountant – Capital Accounting is responsible for overseeing project-related accounting activities and the full lifecycle of fixed asset accounting in accordance with U.S. GAAP. This role requires strong accounting expertise, particularly in capitalization criteria, cost allocation, asset depreciation, and internal controls. The Accountant partners closely with project managers, finance leadership, and operational teams to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance.

The Main Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Project Accounting
Manage accounting for capital and non‑capital projects, including cost tracking, capitalization, and expense recognition.
Monitor project budgets versus actuals; investigate and explain variances.
Ensure accurate and timely project close‑out accounting, including asset placement into service.
Partner with operations, engineering, IT, and project management to ensure financial accuracy and proper documentation.
Fixed Asset Accounting
Maintain the fixed asset subledger, including additions, disposals, transfers, impairments, and retirements.
Calculate and record depreciation and amortization in accordance with company policy.
Perform periodic fixed asset reconciliations to the general ledger.
Ensure compliance with internal controls related to fixed assets.
Month‑End and Financial Reporting
Prepare journal entries related to projects and fixed assets.
Support monthly, quarterly and annual close processes.
Prepare supporting schedules and analyses for financial statements and audits.
Assist with external and internal audit requests related to project accounting and fixed assets.
Compliance and Process Improvement
Ensure adherence to U.S. GAAP, internal accounting policies, and internal control requirements.
Document and maintain accounting policies related to capitalization and fixed assets.
Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, controls, and reporting efficiency.
Participate in system implementations or enhancements impacting project or fixed asset accounting.

Main Requirements
Qualifications & Experience
Required
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, with significant focus on project accounting and fixed assets.
Strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP capitalization criteria, including asset classification, componentization, and capitalization thresholds.
Experience with fixed asset systems and ERP environments (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Workday).
Advanced Excel skills and strong analytical capabilities with a detail-oriented mindset.
Effective written and verbal communication skills and cross-functional collaboration.
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred
Experience in communications, technology, or capital‑intensive industries.
Prior involvement in audits and internal controls compliance.
Experience supporting large, complex capital projects.
Compensation
This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
Location Based Pay Ranges:
$87,000-$142,000
