Staff Accountant
LHH Recruitment Solutions is working with a property management company, in Glen Allen, VA, and searching for a Staff Accountant, for a contract, possible contract-to-hire opportunity.
This is an in-office position for an accounting professional who enjoys hands-on financial work, process improvement, and exposure to both corporate and property-level accounting operations.
About the Role
The Staff Accountant will work directly with the Controller and play a key role in financial reporting, monthly close, reconciliations, budgeting, and accounting process improvements. This position offers regular interaction with leadership and involvement in strategic accounting projects across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Own key components of the monthly close process across multiple properties and corporate entities, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Partner with Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable teams to ensure proper accounting treatment, timing, and classification of transactions.
- Lead the preparation, maintenance, and analysis of property-level and corporate budgets, including monthly variance analysis with actionable insight.
- Manage and oversee mortgage loan accounting functions, including escrow tracking, reserve reconciliations, and capital draw processes.
- Prepare and post complex journal entries, including accruals and other adjusting entries, ensuring alignment with accounting standards and internal controls.
- Perform and review bank reconciliations and general ledger account reconciliations across multiple entities, identifying and resolving discrepancies.
- Prepare, analyze, and present financial reporting packages for internal and external stakeholders within established deadlines.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting efficiency, and internal controls; actively participate in the implementation of enhancements.
- Support ad hoc financial analysis, cross-functional initiatives, and special projects as assigned by the Controller and leadership team.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of accounting experience, preferably within real estate investment, property management, or a multi-entity environment. Experience with private equity fund structures is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to operate in both detailed execution and broader accounting process ownership.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify issues, drive resolution, and improve financial processes.
- Experience with multifamily/property management accounting systems.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, with the ability to build and interpret complex financial analyses.
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field required.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to prioritize and manage competing deadlines in a dynamic environment.
Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM-5:00 PM or 8:30 AM-5:30 PM
Contract Pay: $30-$38 per hour, depending on experience
