Description

What to expect.

Under the supervision and direction of the Controller or Accounting Manager, performs a variety of cost and specialized financial accounting duties for multiple Sheppard Pratt corporations and related grant awards.

Grant Accounting: Maintains detailed records and reconciliations related to Sheppard Pratt federal and state grant awards. Duties include the following: Participates in all necessary monthly accounting and analysis. Monitors grant timekeeping, contracts, sub-awards and invoice coding for compliance with federal regulations. Assists in drafting grant contracts, budget amendments, and financial reports. Assists in preparing and maintaining all necessary documentation for annual A-133 audit. 

General Accounting: Participates in the preparation of Sheppard Pratt internal financial statements and the analysis of variances. Prepares routine accounting entries in conjunction with month-end close, and performs routine and special analysis as required. Assists with the preparation of the annual operating budget, budget software maintenance, and with all regular and special audits. Assists in the preparation and maintenance of all records related to Sheppard Pratt financial surveys. Prepares required cost reporting and compliance reports for external agencies such as Maryland Health Services Cost Review Commission (HSCRC) and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and communicates with agency reviewers pertaining to these reports. Maintains and reconciles fixed assets and investment portfolio records. Assists with preparing annual operating and capital budget. Performs special accounting functions related to system and compliance issues.

Specific responsibilities include:

Customer Relations

  • Demonstrates customer focus and strives to exceed expectations for customer service.

General Accounting

  • Prepares various monthly journal entries and reviews those prepared by others for accuracy.
  • Assists in facilitating the monthly closing of accounts for all entities.
  • Classifies and records accounting data in general ledger accounts.
  • Compiles monthly statements of operations for monitoring departmental profitability.
  • Maintains and updates general ledger chart of accounts.
  • Maintains financial reporting formats and reconciles to general ledger.
  • Co-ordinates subsidiary module interfaces to general ledger.

Operating Budget

  • Assists in the preparation and compilation of annual budgets for various Health System corporations.
  • Places calls or researches data and obtains clarifications or missing information as required.

Medicare and Medicaid Cost Report Preparation

    • Compiles various financial and statistical data for input into Medicare/Medicaid annual cost report filings.
    • Assists in the actual preparation of the cost reports.
    • Prepares various quarterly Medicare periodic payment reports.

Other Accounting/Department Responsibilities

  • Assists in the day-to-day resolution of accounting problems, development of control processes, review of journal entries, review of results, and update of reports.
  • Modifies classification of data, as required, to facilitate proper recording of transactions and present accurate financial status of the various entities.
  • Assists in the preparation and maintenance of all records related to Sheppard Pratt financial surveys.

Grant Accounting and Reconciliation

  • Maintains detailed records and journal entries related to Sheppard Pratt federal and state grant awards.
  • Reconciles grant accounting and journal entries with the General Ledger.

Grant Monitoring

  • Monitors grant timekeeping, contracts, and sub-awards for compliance with federal regulations.
  • Reviews Accounts Payables invoices to assure documentation and coding for grant compliance.
  • Completes time studies to assure that they support accounting record for grants.
  • Assists in preparing all necessary documentation for annual A-133 audit.

This position has a pay range of $58,401.82 - $90,195.04.

What we need from you.

  • Work requires professional level of knowledge of accounting principles, practices and theory, including cost and specialized accounting - acquired through a bachelor's degree in accounting or business administration.
  • Work requires knowledge of general accounting and compliance reporting, and must have experience working with computerized budgeting, accounting, and General Ledger systems - acquired through two to three years’ professional accounting experience.
  • Work requires a relatively high level of analytical ability in order to analyze comparative financial data and ascertain causes of variances on financial statements, departmental statements of operations, and paid hours and expense reports, and use electronic spreadsheet software to create meaningful reports.
  • Experience with compliance accounting preferred.
