Performs a variety of professional-level accounting duties including but not limited to; internal audit processes; assisting with payroll, accounts payable, capital asset management, and inventory tracking; and completing monthly accounting tasks. Acts as a direct liaison between departments and funds in support of the budget and audit. Provides support for budget development such as gathering data and updating reports. Supports preparation of year-end workpapers, audit documentation, and the Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR). Expected to be a subject matter expert in Opengov (budget development) and INCODE (accounting software).

JOB SUMMARY

  • Assist with preparation of audit schedules and documents for the ACFR.
  • Provide accounting and budget support to the accounting team and departments and funds across the city and to the Director of Finance.
  • Provide support for the budget process including gathering departmental data, updating spreadsheets and reports, and assisting with uploads into the Opengov budget system.
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements and prepare journal entries.
  • Assist with and complete month end and year end closing procedures.
  • Provide Ad hoc support and custom reports to staff outside of the finance department.
  • Research and prepare variance analysis between budgeted amounts and actual expenditures, including preparing projections for groups.
  • Ensure compliance with all GASB standards and government accounting principles.
  • Prepare and engage in cashflow analysis to ensure financial stability of the City of Golden.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelors degree in accounting with a minimum of two years of accounting or accounting related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Municipal finance experience preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid drivers license and good driving record.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, technical documents, and policies.
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports, and correspondence.
  • Proficiency in preparing reports, correspondence, and presentations with clarity and precision.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

  • Strong proficiency in accounting principles, financial analysis, and budgetary calculations.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages, ratios, and variances.
  • Competence in reconciling accounts and ensuring accuracy in financial reporting.
  • Proficiency in applying accounting principles to ensure accurate financial reporting.

REASONING ABILITY

  • Ability to solve practical problems and interpret a variety of instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on data and analysis.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and GASB standards.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with Tyler Incode, OpenGov, and UKG preferred.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • General office equipment including laptop, financial software systems, multi-line telephone, copiers, scanners, and analytical tools and calculators for financial analysis.
