About the Position: The Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA) is recruiting for an Accountant I within the Office of Finance and Accounting. This entry-level position supports the processing of grant payments and assists with the review and maintenance of accounting records.- Key Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:• Analyzing basic financial data• Processing accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions• Ensuring compliance with general accounting standards, government regulations, and agency policies and procedures.In this role, the incumbent will begin applying foundational accounting principles while gaining experience working with multiple funding sources, including federal and state funds. The position involves moderate complexity through exposure to various revenue sources, cost centers, and cost allocations. Ideal candidates will have a basic understanding of accounting concepts, have experience or be familiar with grants management and systems such as the MS Accountability System for Government Information and Collaboration (MAGIC).*** Please note this position is with the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency (MEMA), and ALL MEMA positions can be called back to work outside the standard work schedule. A drug screen and background check may be required for hires and promotions. Additionally, a credit check may be conducted for individuals responsible for financial, human resources, and information technology matters.
