Position Summary: Reporting to the Manager of Fixed Assets and Leases, the Staff Accountant II will be a key member of the Cumberland Farms Finance team responsible for all accounting activities related to Fixed Assets and Leases. In addition, this role will work closely with Real Estate, General Ledger, Construction, and other corporate teams. Responsibilities: Review incoming leases for proper accounting treatment under IFRS 16 and US G.A.A.P. Research and document applicable accounting treatment for certain business transactions. Attend quarterly cross functional meetings to identify/discuss accounting implications Review select account reconciliations prepared by others in Finance to ensure accounts are reconciled properly and in accordance with GAAP Analyze and reconcile certain balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis Collaborate internally with the Fixed Assets and Leases department to complete month-end close deliverables Identify and implement process improvements. Assist with ad-hoc requests both internally and externally Working Relationships: Interact with the entire Finance organization on a routine basis and various departments throughout the organization. This position will work closely with Real Estate, Fixed Assets, Financial Reporting, Tax and other key business segments. Requirements Minimum Education: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting Preferred Education: Master's Degree in Accounting or MBA Minimum Experience: 1-2 years industry experience, preferably working in fixed assets or lease accounting Preferred Experience: 1-2 years of public accounting experience at a Big Four firm with retail and/or real estate exposure and 1-2 years industry experience, preferably working in fixed assets Licenses/Certifications: CPA preferred. Soft Skills: Technical accounting abilities Effective Communication (verbal and oral) in order to clearly communicate and present unusual and/or complex concepts or issues in a convincing manner across all levels of management Passion for detail and meeting deadlines Flexibility and ability to pivot between competing priorities Intermediate knowledge of MS Suite Experience with Oracle EBS or Oracle Fusion a plus Strong organizational skills to include effective time management in all key responsibilities of the job Other Requirements: Hours & Conditions: 40-50 hour work week in a corporate environment Driving Requirement: None Travel: None Physical: Minimal physical effort required, sitting / standing at computer for long periods of time. Ability to maneuver and lift to 10 lbs. Other: The position requires reporting to the office three times per week with an option for a hybrid work schedule for two days per week from a home office. Cumberland Farms is a privately owned family run business that has been around for almost sixty years with a corporate facility in Framingham, MA. We started back in the 50’s and through the years have grown to over 600 convenience stores ranging from Maine to Delaware as well as a group of stores in Florida.
In 2005, Cumberland Farms completed the acquisition of Gulf Oil LP and is now known as The Cumberland Gulf Group.
In May of 2009 Cumberland Farms and Gulf Oil moved into our new state-of-the-art business support campus in Framingham, Massachusetts. It is a beautiful, remarkable facility that will help lift both of these great companies to new heights for years to come.
