The Agricultural Research Center–Hays seeks an Accountant II to coordinate procurement card oversight, process financial transactions, maintain compliance with university and regulatory policies, and support operational functions.

About This Role

This position provides financial and administrative support for the Agricultural Research Center–Hays by coordinating procurement card oversight, processing financial transactions, maintaining compliance with university and regulatory policies, and supporting operational functions. The position serves as a resource to faculty and staff regarding financial procedures, travel and procurement processes, and record management while ensuring accurate documentation, reporting, and continuity of business operations.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Ag Research Center–Hays business procurement card (BPC) program, including oversight of card usage, transaction monitoring, and reconciliation to ensure compliance with university, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Review and verify procurement card transactions, receipts, and supporting documentation for accuracy, appropriateness, and adherence to policy.
  • Provide guidance and training to faculty and staff on Concur procedures, travel policies, and appropriate procurement practices.
  • Analyze spending patterns and identify discrepancies or compliance concerns, providing recommendations for corrective action when needed.
  • Serve as a resource to ensure proper interpretation and application of Division of Financial Services policies and procedures.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of financial e-form documents, including Accounts Payable Vouchers (APVs), Interfund Vouchers (IDVs), and other financial transactions.
  • Review and process transactions in accordance with university policies to maintain compliance and data integrity.
  • Initiate and process warrant cancellations and corrections as needed, ensuring proper documentation and audit readiness.
  • Maintain organized and accurate financial records to support reporting, reconciliation, and audit activities.
  • Collaborate with central offices to resolve discrepancies and ensure accurate posting of transactions.

What You'll Need to Succeed

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires a high school diploma (or equivalent) and two years of relevant experience. Requirements may be met through a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two years of experience in computer-based accounts payables or accounting software.
  • Computer proficient/ability to learn new systems. This position uses department accounting systems(Concur, Sage) and the Microsoft office suite as well as Adobe Acrobat Pro.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn quickly, determine priorities, take initiative, and work independently.
  • Customer-service oriented
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Knowledge or experience in accounts payable functions
  • Experience with K-State BPC processes
  • Higher education certificate or degree in a related field
