We are seeking an Accountant II to join a growing accounting team in Houston. This is a great opportunity for an early-career accountant who has a solid foundation in general accounting and wants to continue building experience across general ledger, fixed assets, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial reporting.
This position will work closely with the Accounting Manager and other members of the finance team while supporting daily accounting activities, reporting, and special projects.
What You'll Do
Maintain fixed asset accounting, including additions, disposals, depreciation, transfers, and asset updates.
Prepare and post journal entries and maintain general ledger accounts.
Assist with month-end and year-end close activities.
Complete bank, credit card, balance sheet, and other account reconciliations.
Maintain prepaid expenses and recurring monthly entries.
Post and reconcile daily cash activity.
Review accounting activity for accuracy and research discrepancies.
Assist with AP and AR functions and review batches prior to posting.
Prepare financial reports, schedules, and supporting documentation.
Assist with internal and external audit requests.
Support budgeting and forecasting activities.
Help maintain compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and established accounting procedures.
Partner with other departments to research and resolve accounting issues.
Assist with special projects, reporting requests, and process improvement initiatives.
What We're Looking For
Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
13 years of accounting experience.
Working knowledge of GAAP and general ledger accounting.
Experience with journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including formulas and PivotTables.
Experience working with accounting or ERP systems.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics GP / Great Plains.
Fixed asset accounting experience.
CPA or progress toward CPA is a plus.
