About the Agency

The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services (MDRS) is a state agency dedicated to helping Mississippians with disabilities to live and work independently. MDRS serves through four major programs: Vocational Rehabilitation (VR), Vocational Rehabilitation for the Blind (VRB), Office of Special Disability Programs (OSDP), and Disability Determination Services (DDS). Services also include support through Assistive Technology, the Office of Business Development and much more. About the Position

This management-level position is available in the Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services' Finance Division and will report to the VR Finance Director. The selected candidate will be responsible for managing and overseeing the agency's Administrative Accounts Payable unit. Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, entering, reviewing, and approving payments related to the agency's administrative expenditures in compliance with applicable state and federal laws, regulations, and policies; supervising and addressing personnel matters for a staff of five employees; compiling and reporting payment information for agency management, vendors, and other stakeholders as needed; responding to requests made by auditors and the State Department of Finance and Administration; collaborating with vendors and agency personnel to resolve payment-related issues or disputes; and utilizing strong analytical skills to identify, resolve, and minimize the risk of payment errors.

What youll need to be Successful

Successful candidates will demonstrate strong organizational, leadership, and communication abilities, along with a foundational understanding of finance and accounting principles as they relate to Accounts Payable. The role also requires dependability, adaptability, a willingness to learn, and the ability to maintain a positive attitude while consistently meeting deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications

Typically requires a Bachelor's Degree and 4-5 years of experience and/or appropriate certification. Agency preferred qualifications: Experience with Microsoft Office products, namely Excel and Word. A general knowledge of computers and other computer-type equipment used in the course of day-to-day business.

Paid Personal Leave and Sick Leave

Full-time employees receive paid time off for personal needs and for sick leave. Leave begins accruing after one month of employment and may be used as it is accrued. Employees earn approximately 18 days of personal leave annually and 12 days of sick leave annually.

In accordance with federal law, all employees serving in the armed forces or the military reserves are entitled to 15 days per year for military training.
