Reporting to the Director of Finance, the Accountant is responsible for performing and assisting with a wide variety of accounting functions including but not limited to disbursement and income processing. The position is also responsible for providing administrative support to the Chief Financial Officer and the Director of Finance. The position requires ongoing communication and coordination with both University and Foundation staff, donors, students, affiliated organizations, vendors, and members of the Board of Trustees as needed.Key ResponsibilitiesResponsible for the accounts payable disbursement cycle, ensuring disbursements are timely and accurate, meet IRS requirements, and are consistent with donor restrictions and budget constraintsEnsures sales tax is paid when appropriate and credited when not appropriateResponsible for reviewing, processing, and recording purchasing card transactionsResponsible for revenue posting and reconciliationResponsible for reconciling bank statements and merchant statementsResponsible for other general ledger journal preparation and postingAssists with payroll and payroll tax processing and reportingAssists with human resources and employee benefit administrationExports and imports data out of and into general ledger software to facilitate efficiencyPrepares schedules for the annual audit and tax return; maintains records and provides audit sampling documents as requestedMaintains IRS guidelines and industry standards to track and prepare IRS Form 1099sMaintains fixed assets and depreciationMaintains prepaid assets and related expense amortizationReconciles scholarship, professorship, and chair awards; tracks statistics on sameMaintains various accounting schedules and reports in addition to periodic report generation and distributionPrepares University asset transfers via Acts of DonationCopies, scans, faxes, emails, files, collates, and assembles documentsResponds to requests for information, account balances or activity, and other reportsAssists with accounting and other special projects as neededPerforms other duties as assignedQualificationsMaintains a high degree of accuracy on all work performed while maintaining productivityPossesses a good working knowledge of general accounting operationsAdapts easily to new softwareCommunicates professionallyHandles sensitive and confidential information with discretionAdheres to deadlinesAble to use a keyboard for prolonged periods of time throughout the workdayEducation/Training ExperienceRelated accounting experience preferredCharitable organization experience preferredHighly proficient with Microsoft Excel functionalityProficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Power Point, and Adobe AcrobatSeniority LevelEntry levelEmployment TypeFull-timeJob FunctionAccounting/Auditing and FinanceLocation: Lafayette, LA | Salary: $55,000 - $105,000#J-18808-Ljbffr
