Position Title: Property Accountant

Location: Lee's Summit, MO (On-site)

Job Type: Direct Hire

Position Overview:

The Property Accountant is responsible for the accounting, financial reporting, and cash management of a portfolio of properties. This role supports a small, stable accounting team and partners closely with asset management and leadership to ensure accurate financial operations and reporting.

Key Responsibilities:

Banking & Cash Management:

  • Monitor bank activity regularly to ensure deposits are properly recorded

  • Retrieve and maintain bank statements and complete monthly bank reconciliations after the first day of each month

  • Process recurring deposits into escrow and reserve accounts for managed properties

Accounts Payable Oversight:

  • Review invoices entered by AP and post payables to the general ledger

  • Ensure timely processing of all payables

  • Approve payments on a scheduled basis to support check run processing

Financial Reporting & Reconciliation:

  • Maintain accuracy of the general ledger and ensure accounts are current

  • Monitor monthly property expenses and communicate any trends or concerns

  • Prepare and review financial statements for internal management use

  • Distribute financial reporting packages to investors by required deadlines

  • Maintain accurate accounting records and support ongoing financial reviews

Budgeting Support:

  • Assist with preparation of annual property budgets in partnership with asset management

  • Support site teams in monitoring and meeting budget expectations

Audit & Compliance:

  • Serve as the main point of contact for external auditors

  • Prepare and provide documentation requested during audits

  • Support audit processes and ensure compliance with accounting standards

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform full-cycle accounting for a portfolio of approximately 10-12 properties (bank reconciliations, AP review, financial reporting)

  • Assist in maintaining rent schedules, occupancy tracking, and income accuracy across properties

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required

  • Experience with full-cycle accounting

  • Strong understanding of debits and credits

  • Ability to learn quickly and work in a team environment

  • Property management or real estate accounting experience preferred but not required

  • Experience with property management software such as Yardi is a plus

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary range approximately $55,000-$65,000 based on experience
