Pay Rate: $22–23/hour, depending on experience
Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM–5:30 PM
Open Positions: 1Location: Macon, GA- Applicants should reside within commuting distance or be willing to relocate independently prior to their start date.
The Accountant is responsible for applying principles of accounting to analyze and maintain governmental financial records utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: The following duties are representative of the work required for this job, distributed among a team of three Accountants and two Senior Accountants. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.
  • Maintains the general ledger, prepares and posts entries, prepares monthly journal vouchers, reviews financial reports, and prepares year-end closing.
  • Performs reconciliation of accounts and complex transactions.
  • Performs monthly bank and investment reconciliations and posts adjusting journal entries.
  • Prepares reporting requests as required by governmental and other external agencies.
  • Assists internal and external auditors by providing data and reports needed to complete audits.
  • Performs analysis of general ledger accounts.
  • Assists with review and processing of selected disbursements.
  • Maintains effective working relationships with user departments, agencies, fellow employees, and members of the general public.
  • Performs other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.
  • Experience in accounting; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Prior experience working with or for a government organization is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of general ledger accounting experience required.
  • Experience with fund allocation and reconciliation required.
  • Experience entering and maintaining transactions within the general ledger preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The Accountant must be knowledgeable of the following principles, procedures, and concepts:
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and practices, preferably governmental accounting.
  • Ability to check, verify, and balance accounts to the general ledger.
  • Knowledge of applicable local, state, and federal laws and regulations pertaining to finance and accounting.
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques of research, statistical analysis, and report preparation.
  • Knowledge of a variety of operational concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate, and organize work; set priorities and meet critical deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with members of all levels within the organization.
  • Skill in using personal computers and relevant office programs.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger functions, journal entries, and account reconciliations.
  • Working knowledge of Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) functions.
  • Ability to accurately enter, review, and maintain financial transactions within the general ledger.
  • Ability to resolve problems in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.
