Description

Heartland Community College seeks a qualified, detail-oriented individual to join our Business Office in a full-time role. The successful candidate will perform a broad range of daily accounting functions critical to the efficient financial operations of the College. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, accounts payable, general accounting, accounts receivable, and support for the Heartland Community College Foundation's financial activities. This position also assists the Controller with financial reporting and audits.

General responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Compile, file, and record a wide variety of financial accounting transactions and entries necessary for daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and fiscal year end including but not limited to ACH deposits, interest calculations, and ledger corrections
  • Reconcile various accounts including but not limited to Accounts Receivables, Accounts Payables, etc. to maintain accurate balances
  • Assist the Controller with external financial audits and with preparation of the College's annual comprehensive financial report, including the statistical and management sections
  • Process, prepare, and submit state and federal financial reports/surveys
  • Assist the Controller with account and reporting functions specific to the HCC Foundation including, but not limited to, preparing monthly journal entries and processing budget transfers; preparing monthly financial statements; and assisting the Foundation's annual budget and its entries into the institution's financial systems
  • Respond to inquiries from a wide variety of sources for the purpose of facilitating communication and providing guidance and/or information.
  • Prepare daily accounting for ICISP and all other fiduciary activities.
  • Perform monthly entries and tracking of the asset inventory management and maintenance for fixed asset purposes

Requirements

  • Associate degree in accounting, business, finance, business administration, or related discipline
  • Minimum one year of accounting, accounts payable, financial reporting, or business office operations experience
  • Knowledge of or experience with finance and accounting principles
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and inclusively within a diverse campus community as well as with external vendors and auditors
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to problem-solve, work independently, and function professionally under pressure
  • Familiarity with accounting software
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, especially Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, demonstrate a high degree of professionalism, and work independently within strict timeframes and deadlines

Desired Qualifications

  • Accounting experience in higher education
  • PeopleSoft accounts payable, general ledger, or commitment control experience
  • Knowledge of or experience with GASB, ICCB, federal and state regulations and laws

EMPLOYEE LEAVE

Vacation: 20 days (160 hours) per year with a maximum annual carry-over of 40 days (320 hours); Accrual of 6.16 hours will be granted on the last day of each pay period

Sick Leave: 12 days (96 hours) per year with unlimited annual carry-over; 12 days (96 hours) granted on start date; Beginning on the first anniversary, accrual of 3.70 hours will be granted on the last day of each pay period

Volunteer Leave: 1 day (8 hours) per year with no annual carry-over; 8 hours granted on start date, then annually granted on January 1

Special Leave: Available by approval for bereavement, emergencies, and legal requirements

Parental Leave: 4 weeks (160 hours) for qualifying events, once per 12-month rolling period

Holidays: 12 designated paid holidays, plus 3 paid Floating Holidays (24 hours); Floating Holidays granted on start date, then annually granted on the anniversary date. HCC is closed from Christmas Eve Day through New Year's Day generally resulting in additional paid days. The College is closed on Election Day (Presidential Election years only)
