Starting at $55,000 (Exempt)

About the Position:

The Accountant supports accurate, timely, and compliant accounting operations by preparing and maintaining financial transactions, account reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable activity, journal entries, financial reports, and related documentation. This position assists with budget monitoring, grant reporting, audit preparation, and internal controls while collaborating with Finance and program staff to resolve accounting questions and ensure financial information is properly recorded, organized, and maintained in accordance with agency procedures and applicable requirements.

A Typical Day as a Accountant:

  • Prepare, review, code, and process accounts payable invoices in accordance with agency procedures, grant requirements, and approved budgets.
  • Review accounts payable edit listings, verify payment amounts, and assist with check and electronic payment processing to ensure accuracy and proper documentation.
  • Code accounts receivable activity for assigned programs and assist with timely and accurate posting of revenue, reimbursements, and other receipts.
  • Assist with preparation and review of monthly aged accounts receivable schedules, including follow-up on outstanding balances or coding questions as assigned.
  • Prepare, enter, and maintain journal entries, invoices, allocations, and other accounting transactions with appropriate supporting documentation.
  • Reconcile and analyze assigned general ledger accounts, investigate variances, and recommend corrections or adjustments as needed.
  • Assist with monthly financial statement preparation, budget monitoring, grant reporting, and other financial reports requested by management.
  • Maintain organized accounting records and electronic or paper files to support audit readiness, internal controls, and agency reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with program staff to research and resolve accounting questions, coding issues, documentation needs, and payment or receivable concerns.
  • Support year-end close, annual audit preparation, and other special projects by preparing schedules, gathering documentation, and responding to requests as assigned.
  • Maintain confidentiality of financial, employee, vendor, donor, client, and agency information in accordance with agency policies and applicable requirements.

Does the Following Apply to You?

  • Associates Degree or High School Diploma with 3 years of experience
  • Accounting Experience (preferred)

  • Completion of DCFS criminal background check and fingerprinting
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • Obtain an insured vehicle
  • At least three years of driving experience with a valid driver''s license
