DescriptionFull time/Non-Exempt/40 hours a week, Monday through Friday incorporating occasional evenings and weekends as needed. The Museum is an EOE.The Accountant is an important support position within the Museum's day-to-day financial operations. Working within established accounting procedures and internal controls, this role is responsible for performing routine and intermediate-level accounting functions including accounts payable, banking transactions, reconciliations, payroll processing support, and cash handling procedures.The Accountant supports the accuracy, organization, and integrity of the Museum's financial records while helping maintain efficient financial operations across all departments. This position requires strong attention to detail, consistency, confidentiality, and the ability to manage recurring financial processes in a timely and professional manner. The position reports to the Director of Finance.RequirementsReviews invoices for accuracy, coding, approvals, and supporting documentationProcesses accounts payable transactions in accordance with established proceduresPrepares check runs, ACH payments, and wire transfers under approved financial controlsMaintains vendor records and supports W‑9 and annual 1099 compliance processesProcesses deposits using remote deposit capture and prepares weekly bank depositsMonitors daily banking activity and records transactions within the general ledgerPrepares monthly bank reconciliations and assigned balance sheet reconciliationsRecords and reconciles credit card transactions and reports discrepancies to Finance leadershipPerforms daily cash drawer balancing and petty cash reconciliation proceduresMaintains organized and complete financial documentation and filing systemsPrepares and posts routine journal entries with appropriate supporting documentationAssists with month‑end and year‑end closing processesSupports budget preparation and financial forecasting activitiesAssists Human Resources with biweekly payroll processing supportRecords payroll and benefit‑related journal entriesAssists with audit preparation and documentation requestsMaintains confidentiality of sensitive financial and employee informationPerforms other duties as assignedDesired Skills and ExperienceMinimum 2–4 years of accounting clerk, or bookkeeping experienceExperience with accounts payable, reconciliations, journal entries, and cash handling proceduresWorking knowledge of GAAP fundamentals and standard accounting practicesIntermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial software systemsFamiliarity with payroll systems and payroll processing support functionsStrong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracyAbility to manage recurring deadlines and prioritize multiple responsibilitiesAbility to follow established accounting procedures and internal controls consistentlyProfessional communication and documentation skillsHigh level of integrity and professionalism when handling confidential informationExperience in nonprofit or public‑sector accounting preferredExperience supporting audits or financial reviews preferredFamiliarity with enterprise banking systems and remote deposit capture preferredBenefitsFully paid employee medical, dental, vision, and life insuranceA 3% employer 401(k) contribution after one year of employment, with quarterly entry datesPaid vacation accrual at a rate of 3.08 hours per pay period (80 hours annually)Paid sick leave accrual at a rate of 4.62 hours per pay period (120 hours annually)Four complimentary art classes per yearA 20% discount in the Museum Shop and a 10% discount in the Café#J-18808-Ljbffr
