Responsibilities
DESCRIPTION:The Accountant assists with the maintenance of the College's funds and accounting operations. Performs account reconciliations, enters transactions (including journal entries), and provides financial reports to ensure timely and accurate financial records.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:1. Maintains records and required reports for accounts, projects, grants, or other items in the General Ledger, including filing monthly state reports, quarterly forecast of needs, and final reports.2. Monitors transactions and performs required reconciliations including monitoring compliance with budgeted dollars. 3. Enters financial transactions in PeopleSoft modules, such as journal entries and budget amendments.4. Advises departmental budget managers or project coordinators of variances and required adjustments.5. Develops and maintains all full and part-time position control reports to ensure grant or other budgetary compliance.6. Posts monthly closing entries, performs bank reconciliations, 1099 reporting, reviews and reconciles P-Card transactions, and completes other general accounting duties.7. Examines purchase orders, checks, and travel requests for proper code classification and policy compliance.8. Provides year end closing and audit support as needed.9. Assists with system analysis and the creation of adjusting entries, including monitoring of subsystem journal from the Student and Payroll systems.10. Reviews and audits fee proposal requests, maintains fee proposal records, ensures proper data entry of all student fees.11. May serve as team lead to coordinate accurate and timely completion of accounting functions.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:1. Associate degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or related field. 2. Two years progressive work experience in accounting or a related field.DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:1. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting or related field. 2. One year of professional experience in a college, university, or government fund accounting environment.3. One year of experience using Oracle PeopleSoft Financials Management System modules.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:1. Knowledge of accounting, finance, and automated records systems, including the ability to apply GAAP.2. Excellent MS Office Skills (Word, Excel, and Outlook)3. Ability to work both independently and part of a team environment.4. Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.5. Ability to interpret college policies and procedures.6. Ability to organize and maintain financial records and files.7. Demonstrates a professional, courteous demeanor.8. Committed to working in a multicultural environment.WORK ENVIRONMENT and SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS:1.
