Accountant
Performs professional accounting work involving financial reporting, budget monitoring, accounts payable, payroll, and financial analysis for assigned funds and City departments. This journey-level position requires prior accounting experience and the ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment and initiative.
Senior Accountant
May serve as the first-line supervisor for the Accounting Division. Performs complex accounting operations, including financial reporting, reconciliations, budget development, annual audits, and year-end closing activities. Provides technical guidance and support to management.
Job Duties
- Performs professional accounting duties, including financial reporting, recordkeeping, and financial analysis in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Maintains and reconciles the general ledger and subsidiary accounts, including financial activities related to building permits, business licenses, marina operations, and credit card transactions.
- Analyzes and reconciles employee benefit and tax liabilities and prepares and files required state tax reports to ensure accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance.
- Senior Accountants perform the most complex accounting functions and may supervise and coordinate accounting staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Accountant:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting or business administration.
- Two years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience.
Senior Accountant:
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in accounting, business administration, finance, or related field.
- Four years of increasingly responsible professional accounting experience that includes governmental accounting.
Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is desirable.
