This role serves as the organization's primary accounting professional, working directly with the Executive Director and leadership team to ensure financial integrity, support strategic decision-making, and help maximize our impact throughout the communities we serve.

What You'll Do

As the organization's lead accounting professional, you will oversee all core accounting and financial operations, including:

Financial Leadership

  • Manage month-end close and maintain accurate financial records
  • Prepare monthly financial statements and analyses (including GL reconciliations, journal entries, government billing, AP/AR oversight, and Board Reporting ) using GAAP
  • Develop budget-to-actual reporting and provide insights to leadership
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-term planning

Grant & Fund Accounting

  • Manage restricted funds and grant accounting
  • Monitor allowable expenditures and grant balances
  • Prepare reimbursement requests and required financial reports
  • Ensure compliance with funding requirements

Payroll & Financial Operations

  • Process payroll and related financial reporting
  • Oversee cash management activities and banking relationships
  • Review accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
  • Maintain strong internal controls and financial procedures

Audit & Compliance

  • Coordinate annual audit preparation
  • Assist with Form 990, Form 5500, and regulatory reporting
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit accounting standards and GAAP

Strategic Partnership

  • Serve as a member of the leadership team
  • Communicate financial information to non-financial audiences
  • Identify opportunities to improve processes and efficiency
  • Support organizational initiatives and special projects

These responsibilities are grounded in the role's expectations for accounting ownership, fund accounting, payroll, audit support, reporting, internal controls, and leadership collaboration.

What We're Looking For

We're searching for someone who combines technical accounting expertise with a collaborative, service-oriented mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three or more years of progressive accounting experience utilizing generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Experience managing month-end close processes
  • Financial statement preparation experience
  • Strong general ledger and reconciliation skills
  • Budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis experience
  • Proficiency in Excel and accounting systems
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

Additional Experience That Stands Out

  • Nonprofit accounting experience
  • Grant or fund accounting experience
  • Audit preparation experience
  • Government reimbursement billing experience
  • QuickBooks experience
  • CPA or other accounting credential

Compensation

Salary Range: $55,000 - $65,000 annually
