Accounting Analyst
100% USA Remote
  • Shift: Day 5x8-Hour (08:00 - 17:00)

Note: MUST be legally authorized to work in the United States.

POSITION SUMMARY:
  • The Accounting Analyst III is a senior-level operational accounting role supporting multiple functional areas within Sutter Health’s Finance organization, including General Accounting, Banking, Projects, and Fixed Assets. This position is responsible for executing and reviewing complex accounting activities, maintaining accuracy across a multi-entity environment, and ensuring integrity during the organization’s transition to Workday
  • The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, hands-on experience managing day-to-day accounting cycles, and the ability to quickly diagnose and resolve discrepancies in a high-volume environment. This is not a consulting or project-only role—this position requires deep operational accounting expertise with the ability to support project work as needed

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operational Accounting (Primary Focus)
  • Prepare, review, and post complex journal entries (accruals, prepaids, intercompany, property-related entries, etc.)
  • Complete and review balance sheet reconciliations across multiple entities
  • Research accounting issues, investigate variances, and recommend corrections to the Accounting Manager
  • Manage accounting for multi-entity structures, including fixed assets, AP accruals, prepaids, and property accounting
  • Maintain compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and external reporting requirements
Cross-Functional & Systems Work
  • Support the Workday ERP transition by validating data, assisting with testing, and helping refine processes—without compromising day-to-day close responsibilities
  • Partner with reimbursement, finance, and ERP project teams to ensure consistent and accurate reporting
  • Develop, improve, and maintain reporting structures across the general ledger and asset modules
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Review work prepared by junior team members and provide guidance on accounting procedures and audit readiness
  • Communicate financial results, variances, and root causes to leadership and cross-functional partners

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field required (or equivalent experience)
Experience:
  • Minimum 5 years of recent operational accounting experience (not solely project/program work)
  • Strong background in multi-entity accounting within large or complex organizations
  • Healthcare experience preferred but not required
Skills & Knowledge:
  • Strong technical accounting foundation and thorough understanding of GAAP
  • Hands-on experience with fixed assets, banking reconciliations, and project accounting
  • Proven ability to prepare and review complex journal entries and reconciliations
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups; macros a plus)
  • Experience working in an ERP environment; Workday strongly preferred
  • Ability to interpret and communicate complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and meet tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently while supporting a collaborative team environment
Preferred Soft Skills:
  • Clear, professional communication—verbal and written
  • High accountability and reliability, especially during month-end close
  • Proactive problem-solving and ownership mentality
  • Adaptable and comfortable flexing across multiple finance domains as needed

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Interview Process:
  • One-round Microsoft Teams interview with the hiring manager and peer manager.
