Accounting and Finance Consultant

Interim Director / VP of Finance & Accounting

Location: Huntsville area — 4 days per week in office

A growing government contracting and professional services organization is seeking an Interim Director/VP of Finance & Accounting to provide hands-on leadership during an important period of growth and transition.

Reporting to the COO, this leader will oversee a finance and accounting team of approximately seven and take ownership of day-to-day financial operations, reporting, forecasting, compliance, and process improvement.

Responsibilities

• Lead accounting, financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
• Provide hands-on leadership and direction to the Finance & Accounting team.
• Partner with the COO and senior leadership on financial performance and business decisions.
• Oversee project finance and government contract accounting.
• Ensure compliance with applicable government contracting requirements and internal controls.
• Support pricing, forecasting, and program-level financial analysis.
• Drive process improvements, automation, and scalability across the finance organization.
• Oversee audit, tax, banking, and other external financial relationships.
• Provide financial reporting, analysis, and performance metrics to leadership.
• Identify opportunities to improve processes, controls, and overall finance operations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• 10+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience.
• Previous Director of Finance, VP Finance, Controller, or similar senior-level experience.
• Strong experience within a government contracting environment.
• Strong Deltek Costpoint experience required.
• Deep understanding of government contract accounting, indirect rates, FAR/DCAA requirements, and project-based financial management.
• Experience leading and developing finance/accounting teams.
• Strong analytical, operational, and communication skills.
• Ability to be hands-on and immediately effective in a fast-moving environment.
• ESOP/employee-owned company experience is a plus.
• CPA is preferred but not required.
