Job Summary:

The Accounting and Finance Manager serves as a key member of the Finance leadership team, responsible for managing accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, budgeting support, compliance activities, and financial analysis. This position ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial information, supports month-end and year-end close processes, coordinates audit and regulatory reporting requirements, and provides detailed financial analysis, forecasting, variance reporting, and actionable insights to support organizational decision-making. This role requires strong accounting expertise, analytical capability, effective team leadership, and close operational collaboration to support the organization’s fiscal success.

Essential Job Functions: 

Operational  

  • Manage preparation, analysis, and interpretation of financial statements; oversee month‑end and year‑end close processes to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with accounting standards.
  • Perform detailed financial analysis, including budget‑to‑actual variance analysis, trend analysis, revenue and expense analysis, cost center performance review, and financial modeling to support operational and strategic decision‑
  • Support development, monitoring, and alignment of annual operating and capital budgets in collaboration with the CFO, executive leadership, and department leaders, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and long‑term financial goals.
  • Prepare and maintain financial forecasts, projections, trend analyses, and reimbursement/payer mix evaluations to support strategic planning and revenue optimization.
  • Prepare recurring financial dashboards, KPI reports, and management summaries that translate accounting and operational data into actionable insights for leadership.
  • Evaluate the financial impact of business initiatives, capital projects, and operational changes; assist with risk assessments and maintain controls to safeguard assets.
  • Monitor and manage cost control initiatives, including surgical services, supplies, and equipment, identifying opportunities for efficiency and optimization.
  • Develop and present financial and operational reports to leadership, including KPI, variance, and trend analysis; perform ad hoc analyses and special projects.
  • Partner with operational leaders to interpret financial results, explain variances, and develop corrective action plans when performance does not align with budget or organizational goals.
  • Coordinate financial audits, work with external auditors, and maintain strong internal controls and compliance with financial, tax, healthcare, and regulatory requirements.
  • Drive continuous process improvement in financial systems, reporting, and workflows; coordinate and support departmental policy review to ensure alignment with organizational standards, regulatory requirements, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with the CFO and leadership to support financial strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Support leadership oversight to ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and accrediting bodies, including state and federal requirements.
  • Participate in the administrator on‑call rotation as assigned.
  • Use the organization's secure messaging platform in accordance with departmental protocols, including timely receipt of and responses to communications.

Leadership 

  • Provide day‑to‑day leadership, direction, and oversight to the Accounting team, ensuring high performance, effective resource utilization, and adherence to organizational policies.
  • Maintain robust internal controls, accounting procedures, and documentation standards in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Manage staff performance activities, including evaluations, professional development, training, coaching, corrective actions, and ensuring staff have appropriate resources and tools to perform effectively.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional leaders, Human Resources, and executive leadership to ensure financial alignment while supporting workforce education, leadership development, engagement strategies, and measurable performance improvement across departments.
  • Stay current on industry trends, regulatory updates, and accounting standards, updating organizational policies and procedures as appropriate.
  • Represent Finance in internal and external meetings, including outside normal business hours as needed; lead departmental meetings, and facilitate effective communication through leadership meetings, department forums, and system‑wide communications.

Strategic  

  • Support the development and execution of workforce and resource allocation strategies in collaboration with front‑line leadership to ensure staffing models support organizational objectives.
  • Participate in root cause analyses and high‑priority reviews, supporting cross‑functional collaboration, identification of systemic issues, and implementation of corrective actions while leveraging insights to support organizational process improvement, accountability, and operational excellence.
  • Leverage data, financial analysis, and operational insight to support leaders in developing quality improvement and patient safety strategies and to guide recommendations that enhance efficiency, patient experience, and clinical outcomes.

Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Advanced knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, audit processes, budgeting, payroll, cost containment, capital planning, forecasting, and cost analysis
  • Proficiency in financial systems, ERP software, and data-driven financial modeling, scenario analysis, and reporting
  • Ability to analyze and interpret financial, operational, and quality data; translate complex information into actionable insights; assess and mitigate risk; and drive informed decision-making
  • Strong understanding of healthcare regulations and accreditation requirements (e.g., TJC, CMS, OSHA, HIPAA), reimbursement models, and evolving accounting standards a plus
  • Knowledge of employment laws, human resources policies, and best practices, including employee relations, safety protocols, and compliance requirements
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including setting expectations, providing feedback, performance management, coaching, mentoring, and addressing skill gaps to drive team and leadership development
  • Ability to lead through change, anticipate and respond to shifting priorities, and drive process improvement, innovation, and organizational excellence
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally, build positive relationships, and effectively engage internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • Demonstrates eligibility for employment in the U.S.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
  • Master’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field preferred  
  • Four (4) years of accounting or finance experience required
  • Two (2) years of demonstrated accounting or finance leadership experience preferred
  • Must possess a cell phone that interfaces with the organization’s secure messaging system
