The University of South Dakota's Beacom School of Business seeks applications for a tenure-track assistant professor or non-tenure track assistant professor of practice in accounting beginning in Fall 2027.

The Beacom School of Business is South Dakota's flagship business school, with programs that consistently earn high national rankings from U.S. News & World Report, The Princeton Review, and other respected organizations. The Accounting Department has experienced significant enrollment growth and offers its undergraduate accounting major at both the Vermillion and Sioux Falls campuses, making it the largest major within the school.

At the graduate level, students may complete coursework either on campus or through the online Master of Accountancy (MAcc) program, including the Accounting Analytics certificate. Now in its 14th year, the online program has earned national recognition for its affordability and strong CPA examination pass rates.

Through the efforts of the Beacom School's Career Success Center, the accounting program maintains an exceptionally high placement rate. Students consistently secure internships and full-time positions with Big Four, national, and regional public accounting firms, as well as leading industry employers.

The department maintains strong ties to the accounting profession through active engagement with practitioners and close collaboration with its Advisory Council. In addition, its faculty are widely recognized for excellence in teaching and student mentorship.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes a variety of undergraduate and/or graduate courses in accounting. The faculty member is expected to provide an outstanding educational experience to students through classroom teaching, mentorship, and student activities outside the classroom. Duties include outstanding teaching, scholarly research, and service for the Department, University, profession, and broader community.

Responsibilities:

• Teach both undergraduate and graduate classes in accounting.
• The successful candidate will be expected to teach classes on our Vermillion campus, Sioux Falls campus and online.
• Bring a unique and innovative educational experience to students through both classroom teaching and mentorship.
• Engage in related scholarly research and service for the Department, profession, and broader community.

Minimum Qualifications for tenure track position:

• Ph.D. in accounting from an AACSB-International accredited business school is required, although ABDs with successful defense by the start date will be considered.
• Record of, or potential for, contribution to the scholarship of accounting.
• Proficiency in oral and written communication.

Minimum Qualifications for non-tenure track position:

• Significant professional experience in the discipline.
• Record of, or potential for, contribution to the scholarship of accounting.
• Proficiency in oral and written communication.
