Job Description

The Director, Accounting leads financial close, reporting, inventory accounting, internal controls, and accounting operations while ensuring the integrity of financial information and compliance with reporting requirements. This role also develops accounting talent, drives process improvements, and supports scalable growth through strong financial discipline and operational leadership.

Description

  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements, supporting analyses, and management reporting.
  • Oversee general ledger activities, account reconciliations, and balance sheet integrity, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and internal policies.
  • Manage accounting for inventory, reserves, accruals, fixed assets, prepaid expenses, intercompany transactions, and other complex accounting areas within an inventory-driven business environment.
  • Partner cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, finance, and other stakeholders to address inventory-related matters, costing issues, operational variances, and process improvements.
  • Maintain and enhance accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to support compliance, reporting accuracy, and operational effectiveness.
  • Lead external audit activities, including audit preparation, documentation, information requests, and issue resolution, while supporting tax, treasury, insurance, and other compliance-related requirements.
  • Oversee key accounting operations and working capital processes, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash activity, and related reporting and controls.
  • Monitor financial results and balance sheet activity, identify trends and variances, assess risks, and recommend corrective actions to improve performance and accuracy.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team by establishing clear expectations, fostering accountability, and supporting ongoing professional growth.
  • Drive process improvements, systems enhancements, ERP initiatives, and special projects aimed at increasing efficiency, scalability, visibility, and overall financial control across the organization.

Profile

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally Public, Private, CPA
  • Experience leading financial close, reporting, controls, and accounting teams.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, general ledger accounting, financial statements, account reconciliations, internal controls, and audit requirements.
  • Experience with inventory accounting in an inventory-based manufacturing, distribution, retail, or product-focused environment.
  • Experience leading accounting professionals and establishing performance and review standards.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with ERP systems, financial reporting systems, and accounting workflow tools.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, problem-solving, judgment, and project leadership skills.
