Supervisory Responsibilities
Provides direct supervision and oversight of accounting staff, including workload assignments, coaching, performance management, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards and company policies.
Position Summary
The Accounting Manager oversees daily accounting operations and leads month-end and year-end close processes. This role maintains the general ledger, monitors accounts payable and receivable, and supports budgeting and cash forecasting. The Accounting Manager establishes and enforces appropriate accounting methods, policies, and procedures; supports audits; and drives process improvements while maintaining accuracy, accountability, and compliance with applicable standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage daily accounting department operations.
- Lead and execute month-end and year-end close processes.
- Maintain the general ledger and monitor accounts payable and receivable activity.
- Perform revenue and expenditure variance analysis and prepare financial reports.
- Establish, enforce, and maintain accounting methods, policies, and principles consistent with GAAP.
- Coordinate and support internal and external audits; prepare required documentation.
- Improve systems and procedures and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Direct staff to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Maintain organized records supporting transactions.
- Monitor emerging technologies to improve automation without sacrificing accuracy or controls.
- Oversee the preparation, filing, and reconciliation of all applicable sales tax, use tax, excise tax, and regulatory tax filings, including coordination with external advisors as needed.
- Manage business licensing, renewals, and regulatory financial reporting requirements, ensuring timely compliance with federal, state, and local agencies.
- Serve as the primary accounting contact for tax authorities and licensing agencies on routine matters, escalating complex issues to the Controller as appropriate.
- Provide accounting support related to Vireo Growth when assigned by Finance leadership.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
All accounting activities are performed in accordance with established accounting standards and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must successfully complete all required background checks.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid Marijuana Establishment Agent Registration Card.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Prior accounting experience with responsibility for close, reporting, and reconciliations preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and attention-to-detail skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and professionally, verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency with accounting systems, spreadsheets, and standard office applications.
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered, including internal experience.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
Office or administrative environment; cannabis products may be present and marijuana odor exposure may occur.
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds (50 pounds with assistance).
