As an Accounting Manager at Optum Bank, you will be accountable for overseeing the accounting for Optum Bank's subsidiary, Proceed Finance. You will partner with the Optum Bank Controller to manage the Proceed accounting team, develop financial and business strategies, support the month-end close processes, establish controls, oversee the completion of monthly reconciliations, and perform ad hoc analyses. You will provide operational and technical accounting expertise to help ensure compliance with US GAAP, company policies, rules, bank regulations, and applicable laws.

Proceed Finance is a subsidiary of Optum Bank and part of Optum Financial, a unit of Optum, a health and wellness company. Optum is part of the UnitedHealth Group (NYSE: UNH) family of companies.

You'll enjoy the flexibility to work remotely * from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges. For all hires in the Minneapolis or Washington, D.C. area, you will be required to work in the office a minimum of four days per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the proper, efficient execution of the Bank's accounting function, including accounting for various loan programs

  • Develop and maintain adequate controls to safeguard the Bank's assets

  • Maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure effective financial controls with an emphasis on FDICIA controls

  • Coordinate the monthly accounting close process and review key account reconciliations

  • Provide accurate, timely financial reporting to management and the Bank's parent company based on established timelines, as well as to external constituents, including banking regulators and the Bank's Board of Directors

  • Provide information for the preparation of annual financial statements and related footnotes and disclosures for external audit; coordinate and manage external audits

  • Research and document technical accounting guidance and reporting requirements for new products

  • Manage the work of accounting staff to ensure reconciliations are completed timely and accurately

  • Assist with ad hoc projects related to accounting processes

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience in financial services or a related industry

  • Intermediate proficiency in Excel

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPA or advanced degree

  • Public accounting experience

  • Experience working with bank regulatory examiners

  • Management / Supervisory experience

  • PeopleSoft and/or Hyperion Essbase knowledge

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $91,700 to $163,700 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
