Job DetailsThis position will exercise independent professional judgment on technical accounting matters, maintain rigorous internal controls, ensure ongoing audit readiness, and oversee financial reporting in accordance with U.S. GAAP. The Accounting Manager will play a critical role in ensuring financial statements and accounting conclusions are accurate, well-supported, and capable of withstanding review by external auditors, lenders, advisors, and regulatory stakeholders.
The Accounting Manager's primary focus is hands on accounting operations, technical accounting, financial reporting, internal controls, audit readiness, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Period Close
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes, ensuring accuracy and timely completion.
- Prepare and review financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive supporting schedules for balance sheet accounts.
- Review and approve journal entries, account reconciliations, adjustments, and financial statement presentation.
- Maintain appropriate documentation supporting significant accounting conclusions and estimates.
Balance Sheet & Technical Accounting
- Oversee inventory valuation, inventory reserves, obsolescence considerations, and ownership determinations.
- Evaluate and document revenue recognition conclusions, including complex principal-versus-agent considerations.
- Manage accounting treatment for accounts receivable financing and secured borrowing arrangements.
- Oversee lease accounting, including right-of-use assets, lease liabilities, and related accounting requirements.
- Account for debt instruments, related-party financing arrangements, and other complex financial transactions.
- Ensure appropriate application and documentation of fair-value measurements.
- Identify, evaluate, document, and disclose related-party transactions in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Evaluate subsequent events and determine appropriate accounting treatment and disclosure.
Audit, Internal Controls & Compliance
- Serve as a primary point of contact for external auditors.
- Develop and support accounting positions, estimates, judgments, and required financial disclosures.
- Design, implement, document, and maintain effective internal controls over financial reporting.
- Maintain strong audit readiness throughout the year.
- Evaluate audit findings, develop remediation plans, and monitor implementation of corrective actions.
- Ensure accounting policies and procedures remain consistent with applicable standards and organizational requirements.
Tax & Book-Tax Coordination
- Manage the accounting and tax reporting interface, including identification and documentation of book-to-tax differences.
- Evaluate and communicate the potential tax implications of significant accounting decisions.
- Coordinate with external tax professionals regarding complex transactions and accounting treatments.
- Maintain supporting documentation to promote consistent and defensible financial and tax reporting.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members.
- Establish standardized accounting policies, procedures, close checklists, and documentation requirements.
- Set clear expectations for accuracy, timeliness, accountability, and quality.
- Promote strong technical accounting knowledge and professional judgment throughout the department.
- Foster a collaborative culture centered on accuracy, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related discipline with advanced accounting education.
- Approximately 8–12 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Previous Accounting Manager, Senior Accounting Manager, or comparable accounting leadership experience.
- Advanced knowledge of U.S. GAAP, balance sheet accounting, and financial reporting controls.
- Experience within an inventory-intensive environment such as distribution, logistics, manufacturing, or supply chain operations.
- Demonstrated experience working with external auditors and other financial or regulatory stakeholders.
- Proven ability to independently evaluate complex accounting matters and effectively support accounting conclusions.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving capabilities.
- CMA designation or eligibility to pursue the CMA is preferred.
