Job Description

The Idaho State University Foundation is seeking a positive, energetic, and experienced Accounting Manager to join its team. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Accounting Manager plays a critical role in managing daily finance and accounting operations while ensuring accuracy, integrity, and compliance of financial information.

This position is responsible for a broad range of accounting functions, including general ledger management, journal entries, accounts payable and receivable, financial reporting, month-end and year-end close, audit and tax preparation, compliance, and financial analysis. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, and have the ability to manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure accurate and timely recording of daily financial transactions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit card transactions, cash receipts, and other financial activity.
  • Perform general ledger functions, including preparation and posting of journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations, and maintenance of accounting schedules.
  • Conduct monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, investment funds, along with daily reconciliation of banking transactions.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including financial statements, trial balance, balance sheet, cash flow reports, and other management reports.
  • Manage monthly and year-end financial close, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, account maintenance, and preparation of supporting documentation.
  • Monitor cash and investment balances and assist the CFO with cash flow forecasting and financial planning.
  • Ensure financial transactions comply with (GAAP), applicable state and federal regulations, and organizational policies and procedures.
  • Assist the CFO and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) with budget development, monitoring, forecasting and analysis.
  • Ensure accurate tracking and recording of revenues and expenses by account, program, and funding source.
  • Communicate regularly with the CFO regarding financial activity trends, issues, and recommendations.
  • Research, investigate, and resolve discrepancies related to payments, accounts, and financial transactions; prepare corrective journal entries as needed.
  • Prepare documentation and schedules required for annual financial reporting, tax filings, and external audits; collaborate with auditors as needed.
  • Provide financial support and reporting assistance to Board committees, including Finance, Investment, and Audit Committees.
  • Provide fiscal support to staff, donors, university employees, and fund administrators.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and contribute to the development and implementation of financial policies and procedures.
  • Supervise finance technician, interns, and/or student employees as assigned.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of three years progressive accounting experience.
  • Proficiency with financial management systems and accounting software.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform financial analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities, prioritize workload, and meet established deadlines.
  • Prior supervisory or team leadership experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation.
  • Experience with Financial Edge NXT, or similar nonprofit accounting/ERP systems.
  • Experience in higher education, nonprofit organizations, or fund accounting.
  • Experience with investment accounting, donor-restricted funds, and nonprofit financial reporting.

Salary will be between $60,000 - $70,000 per year, commensurate with education and experience.
