Through training, advocacy, networking, and community engagement, ABC strengthens the industry and empowers the skilled workforce that builds Northern California.To learn more about our mission, values, and services, please visit: hold ourselves—and each other—to the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, accountability, and performance, and are committed to cultivating a positive, collaborative, and results-oriented workplace.JOB OVERVIEWABC is seeking an experienced and detail-driven Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations, strengthen internal controls, and provide timely and accurate financial reporting across the organization.This role also supports the accounting, compliance, and reporting needs of two affiliated Trusts, classified as 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) organizations.Depending on experience, the selected candidate may be evaluated for placement at the Bookkeeper, Senior Accountant, Accounting Manager, or Controller level. This position reports directly to the President/CEO and may supervise accounting staff.This is a full-time, onsite position.Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial Operations & General AccountingManage full-cycle accounting including A/P, A/R, billing, payroll, cash management, and month/year-end closeMaintain and reconcile the general ledger across multiple entities and trust fundsProcess journal entries, accruals, bank reconciliations, credit card transactions, and reimbursementsEnsure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance in QuickBooks and related systemsPrepare monthly financial statements, cash flow forecasts, and budget/variance analysesDevelop reporting packages for leadership, Board, and CommitteesSynthesize financial data into actionable insights and recommendationsBudgeting, Forecasting & PlanningLead and support annual budget development processesMonitor performance and proactively identify variances or trendsContribute to long-term planning and forecasting initiativesAudit, Compliance & Internal ControlsLead preparation for annual audits across the organization and TrustsEnsure compliance with GAAP, IRS regulations, and requirements for 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(6) entitiesDevelop, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard assets and support operational efficiencyPayroll & Benefits AdministrationOversee payroll processing, including review, approval, adjustments, and complianceReconcile payroll accounts, benefit invoices, and retirement plan submissionsSystem Optimization & Process ImprovementEvaluate, implement, and optimize financial systems, controls, and workflowsStrengthen integration and data quality between accounting tools and organizational systemsIdentify opportunities for automation, efficiency, and accuracyLeadership & Cross-Functional CollaborationLead and mentor accounting staff (as applicable) and support professional developmentCollaborate with Membership, Education, Training, Events, and other teams to align financial processesPresent financial data to senior leadership and the Board with clarity and confidenceWork closely with the senior management team to support organizational goals and decision-makingRequired QualificationsEducationBachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; an equivalent combination of education, training, and directly related experience may be consideredExperienceMinimum 7 years of progressive accounting experienceProven track record of supervising or managing accounting teamsExtensive experience with audits, budgeting, internal controls, and system implementationPrior work in a multi-entity, nonprofit, or trust environment strongly preferredProven success in leading strategic initiativesExpert-level knowledge of accounting systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage, NetSuite)Strong understanding of GAAP, regulatory compliance, and financial reporting best practicesDemonstrated ability to lead, mentor, and coach accounting staffExceptional organizational, communication, and strategic planning abilitiesCapable of working cross-functionally and presenting complex financial data to executive leadership and boardsExcellent judgment, high level of confidentiality, and professional demeanorHigh level of integrity, discretion, and attention to detailAbility to work closely with a senior management teamIdeal Candidate ProfileDemonstrates professionalism, sound judgment, and accountabilityHighly accurate, detail-focused, and organizedConfident communicator able to distill financial information for varied audiencesCollaborative team player who values partnership and problem solvingValues confidentiality and operates with discretion and integrityDriven by strategic thinking, continuous improvement, and operational excellenceSalary Range:$120,000 – $160,000 annuallyActual compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and overall fit.BenefitsMedical, dental, and vision coverageRetirement plan with employer matchPaid time offDisability and life insuranceWork Location & ScheduleFull-time, onsite role based at the ABC Northern California officeStandard business hours, with occasional evenings and weekends for events, meetings, or deadlinesOccasional travel may be requiredEqual Opportunity EmployerABC is an equal opportunity employer and makes employment decisions based on merit, qualifications, and organizational needs.
