JOB SUMMARY

The Accounting Manager oversees day-to-day accounting operations for the shared nonprofit services team. This role ensures accurate, timely, and compliant financial activities in accordance with GAAP, Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), grant requirements, and internal policies.

The position supervises accounting staff, reviews accounting work, oversees month-end close and financial reporting, maintains internal controls, and supports audit and compliance activities across multiple nonprofit entities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Supervision & Oversight

  • Supervises accounting staff.
  • Assigns, reviews, and approves accounting work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensures adherence to internal controls, processes, and documentation standards.

Accounting Operations

  • Oversees accounting operations across multiple nonprofit entities.
  • Manages month-end and year-end close.
  • Ensures timely completion of close tasks and resolution of discrepancies.
  • Supports accounting system configuration, setup, and maintenance.
  • Provides backup coverage to ensure continuity of accounting operations.
  • Develops, updates, and maintains accounting policies and procedures.
  • Identifies and implements process improvements across systems and workflows.
  • Overseas health and welfare benefit set up.

Financial and Grant Reporting

  • Reviews monthly trial balances.
  • Oversees grant accounting, cost allocations, and tracking donor restricted funds.
  • Ensures compliance with Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200) and grant requirements.
  • Prepare internal reports for leadership decision-making.
  • Prepares and/or reviews monthly and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP, including net asset classifications.

Budget

  • Works with entity leadership to support the annual and mid-year budget process.
  • Performs monthly budget variance analysis.

Audit

  • Leads audit preparation for external and Single Audits, including coordinating auditor requests, preparing supporting schedules, reviewing proposed adjustments, and supporting financial statement preparation.

Other Duties

  • Supports accounting system administration, including user access, report development, and workflow configuration.
  • Supports cash flow forecasting.
  • Supports grant reporting and initiatives of Chugach Alaska Corporation
  • Supports internal reporting needs through the preparation and distribution of financial information.
  • Other duties, as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MANDATORY:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
  • Five years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit, grant-funded, or multi-entity environment
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience with audit and Single audits
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, including ASC Topic 958

PREFERRED:

  • Master's or other advanced degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • Knowledge of Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200)
  • Public accounting experience
  • CPA or CPA candidate
  • Experience with MIP Fund Accounting, Microix, and Key Navigator
