ACCOUNTING MANAGER

Our client is seeking a Accounting Manager to support the financial performance of a growing construction organization. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing job costing, project financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) analysis while partnering closely with operations and project management teams. The ideal candidate will bring strong construction accounting experience, exceptional analytical skills, and a collaborative leadership style.

OVERVIEW OF THE ACCOUNTING MANAGER ROLE:



  • Oversee project budgets, commitments, forecasts, and actual costs across multiple construction projects.

  • Monitor job cost performance and partner with Project Managers and field leadership to investigate and resolve variances.

  • Support the month-end close process, including journal entries, reconciliations, and cost adjustments.

  • Prepare and maintain Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules and project profitability reporting.

  • Ensure accurate job costing in accordance with GAAP and company policies.

  • Assist with monthly financial forecasts and project performance reporting.

  • Participate in the annual budgeting process and ongoing financial planning.

  • Prepare financial reports for leadership, highlighting project performance, trends, risks, and opportunities.

  • Analyze project financial data to support strategic business decisions.

  • Develop and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls related to project accounting.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, company policies, and applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Support internal and external audits by providing financial documentation and analysis.

  • Assist with tax reporting requirements and ensure proper documentation for change orders, subcontract agreements, and project-related financial records.

  • Lead and mentor job cost and accounting team members.

  • Partner closely with Operations, Project Management, and Finance to improve project financial performance.

  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and improve reporting efficiency.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across accounting and project controls.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ACCOUNTING MANAGER ROLE:



  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with construction accounting experience strongly preferred.

  • Strong understanding of GAAP, job costing, project accounting, and Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting.

  • Experience with project forecasting, budgeting, and financial analysis.

  • Experience with Viewpoint Vista or a similar construction ERP system is preferred.

  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial data analysis.

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across finance and operations.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and attention to detail.
